LDS church to exclude children of same-sex couples from membership

In a major policy announcement, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says children living in a same-sex household may not be blessed as babies or baptized.

The decision, which was released Thursday, takes effect immediately, LDS church spokesman Eric Hawkins told 2News.

"A natural or adopted child of a parent living in a same-gender relationship, whether the couple is married or cohabiting, may not receive a name and a blessing," the policy reads.

Natural or adopted children living in a same-sex household will only be allowed to be baptized once they are 18, disavow the practice of same-sex cohabitation or marriage, and stop living within the household, according to the policy. Such baptism would still require the approval of the church's governing First Presidency.

Another case of Mormons disobeying the Bible

You do not hold children accountable for the sins of their parents
Deuteronomy 24:16; Ezekiel 18:20

God does in a cultural sense but not in the individual

The Mormon Church is not disobeying the Bible. The children can become members when they reach the age of majority. We should be pleased that the L.D.S. Church is at least standing against Homosexual Marriages.

Actually, this makes sense to me. In Christian denominations that practice infant baptism, parents & godparents are required to commit to raise the child in the Faith. Seems to me that a same-sex couple would be fairly ineffective in that regard.

This is a way of keeping the camel’s nose out of the tent. If they took the children of sodomite unions and made them members of their church, then the demand would come to allow the parents to visit and participate in their child’s Sunday school, Christmas play, or whatever. Then, you wind up with proudly-practicing homosexuals infiltrating their church.

The ELCA, PCUSA, TEC, and UMC will accept them with open arms and give the sodomite parents full access to as many children as they want.

My church (the PCA) would not permit the children of sodomite unions to be baptized either since the baptism vows require the parents to promise to raise the child according to Christian virtues—and sodomites cannot promise that since they proudly sin.

But, when the child is 18, they could join as an adult as long as they have a “credible testimony of faith” that has been tested by the Elders of the church.

In this case, the Mormons really aren’t doing anything that the PCA or LCMS is also doing.

I have mixed feelings about this, but regardless, these kids are going to be saved from a cult IMO.

This is a non-issue.

The mormon church has MUCH bigger problems, errors and falsehoods that they ignore:

Like (1) the nature of God, (2) the Cross, (3) salvation.

Isn’t Salt Lake City the place where they are about to elect, or maybe already elected, a lesbian mayor?

Sometimes it amazes me how selective we as Americans are when it comes to the bill of rights.

These folks exercise their First Amendment rights and get attacked from every side.

It is a piss poor sight seeing the lack of understanding of those rights and the plain and simple fact that the founders wrote these in a manner making it clear to all...THAT THEY ARE NOT TO BE F@*&ED WITH!

Sorry...MFS spell. (mad finger syndrome).

Sigh, close, but the 1st is about government censorship...individuals can exercise the 1st Amendment in many different ways, I am FREE to disagree (hyperbolic “attack”) with folks in the same way they are...
