Update: All Eagles of Death Metal Members Reported to Be Safe (Paris)
LA Weekly ^ | 11/13/15 | Andy Hermann

Posted on 11/13/2015 5:39:52 PM PST by Rebelbase

[Update at 5:15 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13: After this article was first posted, several sources confirmed that all Eagles of Death Metal band members are safe and unharmed. One of those sources, drummer Julian Dorio’s wife Emily, told the Washington Post that Dorio called to let her know that “everyone on stage was able to get off.” See the end of the article for further updates.]

As we reported earlier, one of the targets of today's terrorist attacks in Paris was Le Bataclan, a concert venue where Palm Desert-based band Eagles of Death Metal had just performed. At first, it was unclear whether any members of the band were among the 100-plus hostages taken at the theater by a group of six to eight attackers. But according to various sources since, at least some of the band members were already outside the theater when the attack began, although not all band members or crew have been accounted for.

An update posted around 3:45 p.m. Pacific time on Eagles of Death Metal's Facebook page reads: “We are still currently trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of all our band and crew. Our thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation.”

Brooklyn Vegan reports that the French band Red Lemons posted a Facebook update confirming that EODM frontman Jesse Hughes, his partner, Tuesday Cross, and other band members had already finished playing and were outside La Bataclan when the attack began. “They're safe too, they took a cab,” read the post. The Washington Post reports that the mother of EODM’s drummer, Julian Dorio, also confirmed that her son was safe, although she noted that some of the band's crew members were unaccounted for.

Queens of the Stone Age's Joshua Homme, who appears on Eagles of Death Metal's studio albums, was not with the band in Paris, Consequence of Sound confirms.

The website MySanAntonio.com quotes Jimmy Ford from the band Dinola as saying the EODM guitarist Dave Catching and at least one other band member were still inside and “hiding in the building somewhere” when the attack began, but no other outlets have confirmed this information.

According to various reports, as many as 15 of the hostages inside the theater have been killed.

We will have more on this story as it develops.

[Update at 4:29 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13: Associated Press is reporting that there may be as many as 100 dead at Le Bataclan Theater. Police have stormed the theater and killed at least of the attackers.]

[Update at 4:45 p.m.: According to L.A. Weekly writer Lina Lecaro, Eagles of Death Metal guitarist Eden Galindo has confirmed that all band members are safe and accounted for. It is still not clear whether all crew members are safe. Local musician and friend of the band Dan Cleary has also stated via Twitter than all EODM members are safe.]

[Update at 4:58 p.m.: According an ABC News report, Eagles of Death Metal were mid-set when gunfire broke out at Le Bataclan. The band “hit the deck,” according a man identified as Julian Dorio’s brother Michael.]

I’m trying really hard to care. Any one of the actual victims is probably worth more than the entire band.

You win! Worst post about the disaster yet! Congrats.

Sounds to me like you prefer the band to die and the muslim terrorists to win.

Once a thread gets going it often starts deviating from the initial point. It began as a response to a post that was a paroxysm of joy that the “famous” guys got out, but without the slightest mention of all the “nameless” ones who escaped. Our celebrity culture has evidently gotten to the point that people somehow think that it is more important that celebrities got out than the others. In some ways I think that it is so ingrained that people aren’t even conscious that they do it. Now I’ve been told I’m “un-American”. I don’t regard the members of this band, or the Kardashians, for that matter, as especially important, so perhaps I am. I know that isn’t your point.

I’m sorry to hear there is another Muslim terrorist victim, but I don’t think it is a greater tragedy than any of the other victims. Perhaps people will start thinking more about how Obamalini has been bringing Muslims into this country and is planning to bring more in by playing to the sentimentalists among us by calling them “refugees”.

I guess worrying about Americans caught up in this carnage is misplaced sentimentality these days.

I know nothing about the band—just that they are Americans. In that same spirit, I am glad Geraldo’s daughter was not hurt. Has nothing to do with being sentimental about Geraldo.

I suppose you are familiar with the collected works of Eagles of Death Metal or whatever they call themselves.

And apparently you aren't, which suggests the entire basis for your statement is the name of the band. Applying your premise that judging the worth of individual human lives is something we do all the time, you're not very good at it. In fact your post shows that in contrast to other people who may judge others based on their character, contributions to society, effect on the world, etc. you simply judge them based on nothing at all. How does that suggest we should judge you?

That sounds like a creative reading exercise. I actually prefer that only the terrorists die. Go look at the initial post that I replied to. The initial point really had to do with someone thinking that we should rejoice that the famous people got out without the slightest mention of the others.

The head of the band clerked for Sonny Bono and was high up in the NRA somewhere.

I am quite familiar with the band. You may regard them as gifted musicians; I don’t, but that is beside the point. My cavalier treatment of the name, however, was one way of indicating how unimportant in the overall scheme of things they and other pop celebrities are. If you care to look, my original point had to do with the initial post being ecstatic that the famous ones got out without a thought for the others.

I do not place a higher value on one life over another, except for terrorists of course. They can rot in hell.

I grieve for them all, but I am emotionally tied to any American killed or wounded in this attack.

Actually, the thread started as a response to our celebrity subculture - how what happens to celebrities is so much more important than what happens to anyone else. When someone is ecstatic that the famous ones got out without giving a single thought to all the others living and dead, you can see how far things have gone. I also don’t have any special feelings for the Kardashians, but in this case the only people I want to see dead are the Muslim terrorists.

Thanks for succinctly saying what pretty much everyone was getting at. Unfortunately the cheetoh boy is getting off on everyone’s comments,........actually giddy it seems. There are people & then there are things that breathe heavily thru their mouth.

I can understand that, but I think it would be better if we were more emotionally tied to anyone murdered by Muslim terrorists. If we were, then we might actually do something about Obamalini’s open borders policy. The same thing that happened in France will happen here because of the uncritical importation of Muslims. Please bear in mind, I’m not being critical of you.

It isn’t often that I receive such an honor from such an estimable person. I take it you’ve never been inside the music business (or the entertainment business for that matter). Yes, I now think I should go with the spirit of the original post - the most important thing is that the famous people got out. The rest of them don’t really matter. Tune in to the Kardashians at 11!!!

In fairness, I am familiar with the band, and it is sometimes an ironic smiley face of cultural decline. It isn’t, however, true “heavy metal”. But, taking your point in a broader sense, there is almost nothing in popular culture that isn’t overtly or covertly destructive.
