Islamic State earns about $500 million a year from its oil revenues. But according to former CIA director Mike Morrell, US fighter aircraft have been ordered not to bomb their oil wells in case they cause “environmental damage.”
Yes. That makes sense. Clearly one of the main priorities in any war of attrition should be to do everything possible to protect your enemies’ lives, wellbeing and resources.
Some might argue that a merciless death cult which now controls swathes of Iraq and Syria and a population of around 10 million, which makes $2 billion a year from oil and extortion, which rapes and enslaves girls as young as eight, tortures and kills prisoners, chucks gay men off buildings, and is committed to the destruction of Western civilisation, ought not to be treated with kid gloves.
But wiser souls in the Obama administration and at higher levels of the US military have clearly taken a more enlightened, eco-sensitive position: yes, Islamic State may behave inappropriately on occasion, but that is definitely no excuse to engage in tactical bombing operations which may cause serious damage to infrastructure, make the sand in the area all oily and black and sticky for miles around, and release into the atmosphere particles which not only could give nearby jihadis asthma attacks but could also drastically increase the Syria region’s carbon footprint, possibly causing global warming to increase by 0.0000000000000000000000001 degree c by the end of the century.
If only the Allies had applied a similarly enlightened policy in World War II we’d all be in a much better place I’m sure.

“Environmental damage” is simply a handy excuse/explanation for why Hussein refused to allow the military to degrade ISIS’ economic infrastructure. Hussein and Turkey’s Erdogan wanted ISIS to survive IMHO.
If the nazis had known the power of the green movement they’d won the war.
Since the Korean Conflict politicians have set the rules of engagement. By following PC guidelines during times of war, these idiots are killing more Americans than would be otherwise with their PC decisions. If Truman had followed these asinine guidelines, we’d still be fighting door-to-door in Japan. War is ugly. Let the generals direct the fight and end it quickly.
Their fathers, grandfathers and further back ancestors who died in all the wars for our country must be rolling over in their graves...
along with Stanley Dunham, the grandfather of Obama, who fought in WWII...

Its a pretext and a stupid one at that. People with names are making millions off of that oil. If you want to know who is connected, just look at who is protecting it.
Obama isn’t protecting the environment with his rules of engagement. Obama is protecting ISIS.
Global Warming PING!
DANG!
Thanks for posting this!
a Big Hoorah to James Delingpole for writing it as well!
we must also protect that four eyed sand beetle...known to inhabit those portions of the Middle East also Infested by Mohammadans...
Seems to me the opponents of ISIS would be eager to retake the wells rather than see them destroyed, mayhaps that has something to do with it.
That's within their haul capability at 300 to 350 truckloads a day (approx 200 bbls/truck, without regard to weight restrictions you'd find in the US).
Bomb/strafe the trucks, and you eliminate the transport.
The wellheads don't have to be targeted.
