Running mate? Tea party activists convinced Trump eyeing Cruz for ticket
Washington Times ^ | 11/26/15 | S.A. Miller

A group of tea party activists is convinced that Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has struck a secret deal with rival Sen. Ted Cruz to guarantee the Texan the vice presidential spot on the ticket, and conservatives are raving that it would be the best pairing since Harry Burnett Reese combined peanut butter and Hershey’s chocolate.

The Cruz campaign vehemently denied that there was an agreement to form the conservatives’ “dream ticket,” while the Trump campaign remained mum.

“There is no such secret deal,” said Cruz campaign national spokesman Rick Tyler.

Still, speculation about an arranged marriage of Mr. Trump’s self-styled conservative crusade and Mr. Cruz’s die-hard tea party convictions gained credibility last week when Mr. Trump broached the subject himself.

If it came to that, I’d rather see Cruz as AG, or even a SCOTUS Justice. VP’s pretty much a useless job, especially in a Trump admin lol..

VP would be a great job for Sarah Palin.

Just saying.

He would lose. I love Cruz but we need the street fighter to take on the crooked party. Trump takes no prisoner.

I think they would make a good team.

The only benefit I see for Trump is if Cruz threatens his nomination, which seems unlikely, given Trump could offer much more substantial positions like DOJ or SC nominee.

Trump will look for a VP who brings in a whole new demographic.       Vs. Hillary, I'm thinking female.

President of the Senate is NOT a useless job. Only if you’re like lazy Rubio.

Trump is in ram mode right now. Trump and Cruz have got some kind of understanding together. What it is I have no idea but those two are up to something.

I totally favor Trump calling app on Ted Cruz to be his running mate. for me it’s the perfect match

I think from Cruz’s perspective it’s a win-win situation. He’s running for the nomination, not VP. If Trump implodes, he’s well-positioned to pick up the pieces and become the front runner. If Trump continues to dominate (and at this point, this seems like a far more likely scenario), Cruz is the perfect VP choice. Cruz is only 44, so he can afford to wait if things don’t break his way this cycle.

I see it as just an attempt to move Cruz votes to Trump. Any VP talk at this point is simply speculation. Vote for your top choice.

Agree. And money. The donors would rather have Hillary than Cruz or Trump. They wouldn’t show up with the cash.

I’m hoping, given his age, Trump one terms it and Cruz can have the second term.

I’m pretty sure there is no formal deal, but Trump and Cruz are the ONLY two constitutional conservatives in the race (and I’m not as sure of Trump’s bona fides as I am of Cruz’) IMHO. And Trump and Cruz are smart enough to realize they are natural allies in the war against the despicable RINOs who have currently have the reins of the Party and are the GOPe. I just wish that ALL supporters of Trump and Cruz would recognize this confluence of interest and refrain from attacks on Trump or Cruz. Such attacks only benefit the GOPe.

Personally, I think there is no such deal either.

Why would there be? Neither man came into this race thinking a deal was necessary before they decided to step up and run, that’s for sure, and neither man came into the race depending on the other in any way, shape or form, in order to make their case.

Cruz has been deferential to Trump from the beginning, because they are like minded and because they share certain opinions on some issues. He watched Trump and reasoned that he didn’t need any headaches from Trump by insulting him.

Trump responded in kind, and plays it straight up the middle.

Cruz is not in Trump’s way. And, Trump is blowing out the field in national polling. Cruz will be good in the South, but right now Trump owns even the South. We’ll have to wait and see how Cruz sells the evangelicals in those blue states after Florida. Methinks Trump does even better in the NE among primary voters.
