1 of 3 Engineers of the SAFE Act Guilty of Corruption, Second on Trial

Skelos Cuomo Silver

Three men who created the infamous SAFE act in New York have been accused of extortion and corruption.  One of them, Sheldon Silver, has been convicted.  The second, former Senate Leader Dean Skelos, is undergoing trial.  The third, Governor Cuomo, has shown up often in testimony, but has not been charged.

The charges against Mr. Silver upended the status quo in Albany, and were followed in short order by the indictment of another one of the room’s three men, former Senate Leader Dean Skelos. Mr. Skelos, a Republican, is on trial just across the street from the courthouse where Mr. Silver has sat for the last few weeks, also brought up on corruption charges by Mr. Bharara. The dual trials have had a tremendous impact on the workings of Albany, casting a pall over the idea of business-as-usual in the capital—which is what Mr. Silver’s lawyers have maintained was going on, despite prosecutor’s insistence the conduct was illegal— and slowing down negotiations over the budget late last year. The proceedings have also included plenty of testimony about the third man in the room, Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The question is, will Cuomo be able to skate on this? After all, he was only paid "contributions" to his political campaign, as far as we know.

Disarming the citizens has always been a favorite of corrupt politicians and organized crime.

A-yup.

I got my first carry permit in Onondaga County NY. The issuing judge invariably stamped all CCW cards with some limitation such as “sporting use ONLY” to wit if you were found using your carry permit as allowed by law (which did not recognize/authorize such limitations) for self defense (reason most people got carry permits) it would be immediately revoked (law did allow issuing judge to revoke a permit for any/no reason). One year, some 4000 permits were issued - only 4 without restrictions making them impotent.
Eventually that judge was removed from the bench due to allegations of involvement in cocaine trafficking.
Doesn’t prove your point, but it sure does add more anecdata for it.

Cuomo is nowhere near pure as the driven snow. The only difference is he had a dad who knew the ropes.

Ironically, under NY law, will the convicted felon now be required to surrender all of his firearms?
