A majority of Americans oppose an âassault weaponsâ ban for the first time in 20 years of New York Timesâ polling on the topic.
According to NYU political scientist Patrick Egan, the opposition to such a ban is up 16 percentage points from the numbers seen in 2011. Moreover, support for an âassault weaponsâ ban is down 19 percent. On January 15-19, 2011 Americans polled at 63 percent in favor of a ban and 34 against. On December 4-8, 2015, American polled only 44 percent in favor of such a ban, with 50 percent polling in opposition.
The real swing in numbers can be seen by contrasting the latest figures with the first poll NYT took on the topic during January 2-3, 1995. At that time support for a ban was at 67 percent, while opposition to a ban was at 27 percent.

Maybe they polled outside the NYT lobby this time, beyond the armed security.
I remember seeing a news documentary, like 60 minutes or such, about Switzerland. I think that every man of military age was issued a military assault weapon to keep an home. That was required and also it was required that he be proficient in its use.
Americans are coming to realize that their great military will not defend them from invasion or from the national government.
Assault Weapons,ie: machine guns, have been banned in the USA for more than 80 years.
American civilians are the largest army in the world. And we don’t have to answer to one particular Commander-in Chief.
Over 90 million gun owners and over 100 million guns purchased since Bathhouse Barry became President makes us the largest army in the world....and we don’t need more background checks unless we start with Bathhouse Barry and every non-citizen,including all muslims and hispanics who are here illegally!!!!!!!
I feel sorry for the custodians at the Times.
That had to be ONE hideous ugly job of floor-mopping today.
Only the brain dead ones at the New York Times believe if good, honest, law biding people are forced to give up their guns that bad people will do the same.
Q. Where are mass killings happening in the United States?
A. In ‘gun free’ zones.
-you have to get a $200 federal tax stam, go thorough a bunch of legal hoops and then pay the going price from a Class 3 dealer (which will probably start at about $7000-8000 per gun for the least expensive---
Pity though, none of them had a clue about operating or cleaning them although one guy had a son in the Marines. I think I could start a local business just teaching that. Anyway, they are acting on their intuition that something big is going wrong. You can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Very well said, Starstruck. I will add , “behind every blade of grass”.
Not really. If you got the time and money (big money), you too can have a full auto weapon. Of course subject to local laws. I know in FL and NV and several other states, it’s perfectly legal to own a full auto weapon. Just hoop jumping and big bucks required.
Perhaps even the foolish are beginning to realize the dangers that are hosted by our idiot government.
A silver lining to a black cloud. I’ll take what I can get.
-knowing where they had been put exactly , I got to pop a couple of them with a Jap 7.7 mm LMG with which you could squeeze off single shots .BTW, the gun had been converted to fire 7.62x39mm ammo with a conversion kit made near Wickenburg--also used AK-47 mags---
Just shows the American people are ignoring Obama.... Good News
Saw that firearm ownership/possession through dealers had increased by a million since the lyin’ king took up residence. And joshee earnest is scratching his head why. Now, as far as movement in the barter sector or buddy to buddy movement? I’m sure there’s been a few change hands.
