Turkey will get natural gas from Isis since they seem to have more in common with them after the last two elections than they do the western world.

Gas is next. Russia will start pulling it.

I don't believe Russia can afford to not sell the gas. They are taking a beating already in the prices of Nat Gas and Oil.

In my heart, I simply do not feel all that sorry for Turkey, and if economic pressures drive the current bunch of Islamists out of office and into exile, much like what happened in Egypt, not much of anything is lost.

Question - Is the Turkish army of sufficient strength and independence to carry out this palace revolution, or will there be widespread chaos much like we now see in Syria, and to a lesser degree, in Yemen and Libya?

Leader of the minority opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli has criticized President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s stance on speculation that Russia may impose natural gas cuts on Turkey, declaring that the presidential palace should be heated by burning dried cow dung so that the government can share the Turkish people’s suffering.

Oh well. Russia was trying to kill ISIS, Turkey apparently wasn’t.

Erdogan has alienated every ally Turkey has ever had. He threw the alliance with Israel in the toilet right after he took office, and did so over Gaza of all things. Then he alienated his NATO allies, particularly the US, by making trade deals and other diplomatic openings with Syria and Iran (so much for that now eh?). Then he got cozy with Russia and allowed Turkey to become dependent on Russian gas (oops!). And of course the EU is just thrilled with all the refugees comming through Turkey to get to Europe, most of which are going to Germany, Turkey’s closet ally in Europe. Erdogan is possibly the only national leader in the world today who is more stunningly inept at foreign policy than Obama.

Different country, same tune. When these countries find a way to get themselves off the Russian teat, good on them.

"Russia will get away with everything.

What ? It's their gas, but when it's Russia, they don't have the right to sell or not sell to whoever they like?

I'm missing something in this guy's reasoning. Turkey is the one shafting everyone else in NATO as well as Israel and Russia, but the problem is Russia not being a sweet little colonial style servant ?

Natural gas is the big economic lever that Putin has used in Ukraine, and with which threatened the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe.

He has not pulled the trigger on this weapon against Turkey yet, but it is the most effective during the Winter.

Turkey is already scrambling to lay in new supplies from Azerbaijan and the Caspian Basin, as well as sending their military into the Kurdish Region of Iraq, from which they are receiving oil and gas. It was a big incident with the Baghdad Government recently.

They can not meet all their needs by truck, if the pipelines get shut off.

So far, the diversified Turkish economy has still been growing, while the hydrocarbon-dependent Russian economy has been contracting.

Although it would hurt the Russians a lot to cut off Turkish gas, the Russians are famous for enduring suffering. For Turkey however, sudden contraction would be wrenching, as their whole current political environment has been shaped by the long economic boom they have enjoyed under Erdogan. Politically, Erdogan would suffer more at home than Putin.
