Chuck Hagel Breaks His Silence-the Obama inner circle's culture of deceit and delusion

Chuck Hagel Breaks His Silence

A glimpse inside the Obama inner circle's culture of deceit and delusion.

I've never been a big fan of former Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, but one cannot help but feel some sympathy for a man who had to endure two years of fecklessness, incompetence and back-stabbing in the Obama White House. It would have been enough to drive any sane person stark, raving mad. Hagel announced his resignation in November 2014 (he stayed on a bit longer until replaced by Ashton Carter), but the brutal reality is that Obama had betrayed their friendship, and asked for his resignation, an utter humiliation.

Like an abused spouse suffering from Battered Wife Syndrome, Hagel, in an interview with Foreign Policy Magazine, stated, that he's "always had a very good, positive relationship with the president," and still held him "in high regard." The praise, however, seems forced and hollow. Perhaps he doesn't want to completely burn his bridges with Obama just yet.

But Hagel did not spare the rod and had some choice words for the administration's national security advisor, Susan Rice. He claimed that she frequently convened unproductive, long-winded meetings that went on for hours without accomplishing anything. Tough decisions were frequently put off (as if vexing national security issues affecting the nation would somehow resolve themselves). Even more disturbing, Rice's office would frequently subject the Pentagon to unwarranted meddling and micromanagement. Hagel, a Vietnam veteran, was likely cognizant of the Vietnam experience, when stiff-necked, professional pencil pushers tied the Pentagon's hands with absurd rules of engagement and other forms of meddling, ensuring a prolonged, bloody conflict that would ultimately lead to defeat.

Some of Hagel's criticisms have been echoed by various former high-level Pentagon officials including Leon Panetta, Martin Dempsey, and Michele Flournoy, lending credence to the notion that there is substance to Hagel's allegations, and it's not just another case of sour grapes. Moreover, former senior diplomat and special assistant to Obama, Dennis Ross, noted that Susan Rice had needlessly exacerbated difficult situations and was largely responsible for increasing tensions with close allies, such as Israel.

Though there seems to be a consensus that Susan Rice is a flawed and incompetent diplomat, ultimately, it is the President of the United States who bears responsibility for the negative consequences resulting therefrom. Despite the integral role Rice played in the Benghazi fiasco, and subsequent cover-up, Obama appointed her as national security advisor, an appointment that did not require congressional approval. Obama had originally wanted her to succeed Hillary Clinton but Rice had enough common sense to subsequently remove her name from contention, sparing the administration additional embarrassing scrutiny.

Hagel describes how he clashed with the administration on matters ranging from Ukraine to Syria to Guantanamo. On Syria, Hagel had drafted a comprehensive military plan in response to Assad's employment of chemical weapons against his own citizens in 2013, only to be told by Obama to stand down. Hagel believed that that decision hurt America's credibility, especially since Obama publicly stated that usage of chemical weapons by Assad would represent a red line that, if crossed, would prompt a U.S. military response.

Anonymous administration officials countered that Obama was unwilling to proceed with the military action without first consulting Congress and seeking its approval. That contention is laughable, at best, and demonstrates with utmost clarity the Obama administration's mendacity and duplicity.

Since assuming executive office, Obama has demonstrated nothing but flagrant contempt for Congress. On immigration, Obama acted unilaterally, contravening his own acknowledged limitations, and invoked his so-called executive authority to provide legal status to millions of illegal aliens while hamstringing efforts to enforce existing immigration laws. On Cuba, Obama announced that he would seek to normalize relations with the wretched rulers of that rogue nation without first consulting Congress. On Iran, Obama signed the JCPOA, despite the fact that Congress (and the majority of Americans) overwhelmingly rejected the deal. At least 25 House Democrats, and four Democratic senators, recognized the JCPOA's obvious pitfalls and voted with their Republican colleagues. This, however, did not sway the arrogant Obama who eagerly sought to sign a deal with the world's premier state-sponsor of terrorism and mayhem.

In addition to demonstrating his disdain for Congress, the president has also demonstrated contempt for the law. It is no secret that, since assuming office, Obama has tried to close the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo and transfer its detainees elsewhere. Under existing congressional legislation, however, the Secretary of Defense is required to sign off on prisoner transfers. The Obama White House pressed Hagel to expedite the transfers but Hagel was more cautious, noting that he would ultimately bear responsibility if, at some later stage, those released terrorists took up arms against the U.S. This caused additional friction with the administration, ultimately leading to the demise of Hagel's standing in the Obama White House.

Notwithstanding Obama's legal limitations and requirement to consult with Congress before releasing Guantanamo detainees, the administration violated the law by releasing five Taliban/al-Qaida terrorists for confirmed deserter Bowe Bergdahl (who will now face a court martial) without timely notifying Congress. It is this type of pervasive contempt for the legislative branch that permeates the mindset of the Obama White House; a sense that it can do what it wants, when it wants to, without being held accountable to our revered system of checks and balances.

Despite its penchant for disregarding and circumventing Congress, the administration now has the temerity to claim that it did not wish to act unilaterally on Syria without first seeking a congressional endorsement. Given its past record of dishonesty, and the manner in which it sought to bypass Congress at every turn, that pitiful excuse is beyond absurd and represents the zenith of deceit.

Hagel was one of the few people in DC who could make Biden look like the smart guy in the room

Susan Rice is like Anita Hill before her.

A black woman got to Washington only to learn she was out of her depth, out of her league, unable to keep up with demands place upon her. Obama’s blackness in hiring is part of his undoing. They just aren’t up to snuff

AA for AA’s doesn’t always produce positive results

As for Hagel thinking we needed to bomb Assad for the red line incident. He’s as big of an idiot as I thought he was. That was a rebel set up if I ever saw one.

Rebels ask for air support against Assad. Obama says only if he uses gas. A week later the rebels say “hey look, Assad gassed us”. Please. The gas attack was an Al Qeida operation plain and simple.
And the next week Assad gives all his chemical stockpile to Russia.

Hagel is an idiot. Always was, still is. And he waits two years to whine a little about Rice who everyone knows is a mouthbreathing idiot in way over her head.

The only word that comes to mind is “Perfidy”.

Ever notice how once these appointees leave office, they spill the beans and say how awful it was? OK, so they want to sell a book but the truth is, is that they are trying to distance themselves from the utter failure that is the Ovomit presidency.

So, thanks for contributing to the demise of US power, prestige and influence in the world and now you can run off and make money on the speaker's circuit.

Great summary of the First incompetent's mostly disastrous tenure.

Had he moved into the office and done NOTHING but play golf and pursue his"Movin' On Up approach to 'public service,' our Republic would be healthier in almost ever respect.

His fecklessness and incompetence (but I repeat myself,) is his only and permanent legacy.

Didn't Hagel backed Obama against Mc Cain

I really don't give a shit what he says now.

If he had resigned at the point the country did nothing, maybe.

Go sell your book

I agree...I’ve always felt that the “rebels” gassed their own people in a “false flag” operation. And, as always, the Obama propagandists did all they could to disparage Assad, who has defended religious minorities (including Christians) in Syria — defended them against Obama’s & Hillary’s MURDEROUS good buddies there.

Affirmative Action in DC has been a fact of life in DC forever.
I visited DC many times both before and after Obungo, and the number of black privilege jobs (welfare on the sly) was evident everywhere, but restrained.

After Obungo moved in it had drifted, both in appearance and competence, into an almost totally African country, complete with administrative chaos and confusion. We can cover crime and its non disclosure, some other time, both in government and in the DC culture generally.

the obama administration is based on a couple of things.
facilitate the slide to communism
take down America as the world leader
subjugagte our nationto the UN and other world/global bodies
promote jiahd
facilitate racial unrest and redistribution thru “climate change” fraud
obama HATES America, the Constitution and has a vendeta and chip on his shoulder
he is juvenile and delusional, a red racist baby...
he is a traitor and deliberately reduces national security and supports the sworn enemy with recruitment, training, funding and weapons... perhaps indirectly via turkey, jordan and qatar... but does it with taxpayer money nevertheless.. that is treason, plain and simple... releasing enemy combatants who revert back to fighting the US is another treasonous act..
for whatever reason Congress ahs shirked its duty to impeach....
and republicans refuse to use their control and legislative power and the pwoer of the purse... i can only conclude they have been bought, are beiong blackmailed or have switched sides... the end result is the same... obama continues with his treasonous agenda.......

Whatevs, Chuck.

The image I remember the most from Hagel’s disastrous tenure as SecDef was right after he and Obama traded those five terrorists for the traitor Berghdal....he went to some military base as a photo op and tried to make it sound like great news....

“We got one of our own back this week,” he said, apparently expecting a cheer from the servicemen and women.

Instead, he got crickets. Everyone knew it was a stupid deal.

Ex-Defense Secy Hagel said Susan Rice frequently convened unproductive, long-winded meetings that went on for hours without accomplishing anything. Tough decisions were frequently put off ..... as if vexing national security issues affecting the nation would somehow resolve themselve.

Even more disturbing, Rice frequently subjected the Pentagon to unwarranted meddling. Dennis Ross noted that Susan Rice had needlessly exacerbated difficult situations and was largely responsible for increasing tensions with close allies....even the beleaguered Israel.

The execrable Rice had the effrontery to tell the beleaguered Israel they could not criticize John Kerry.

....the consensus is that Susan Rice is a flawed and incompetent diplomat.....

Susan Rice was hand-picked by Obama to augment her resume. He took the know-nothing to China and on other diplomatic romps to credential her for a future job after she leaves his employ.

Rice is way out of her depth, out of her league, chosen only b/c she's black...giving Obama the opportunity Obama to show his utter contempt for the diplomatic professionals in earlier admins.

==========================================

Interesting that a few weeks back, Josh Earnest forcefully told the media that Obama “didnt sign off on this." "This" was the drone attack that killed two---a doctor, an America hostage. There was a lot of talk by Earnest about ’s National Security Team assessing the “protocols” of this particular deadly drone attack.

Was that a hidden message? Was the Ntl Security imbecile who screwed-up the protocols that killed an American doctor...who signed off on the drone attack.....the resident WH moron Suzan Rice?

The Commemorative Susan Rice Video Room is on the lower level (/snix).
