Ted Cruz’s Iowa Ad Offers Conservatives Red Meat on God and Guns

Ted Cruz's Iowa Ad: Victories (Video)

Increasing his presence on television screens in Iowa, Senator Ted Cruz released a new ad, titled "Victories," portraying him as a successful fighter for conservative causes.

On Screen

Black-and-white photographs of a white cross in the Mojave Desert ("Defended the cross. And won," a caption declares), a Ten Commandments monument outside a statehouse ("Protected the Ten Commandments. And won."), armed hunters silhouetted against the sky ("Fought for the Second Amendment. And won.") and a girl with her hand over her heart ("Stood up for the Pledge of Allegiance. And won."). Reverb-soaked guitar licks provide the only sound. Mr. Cruz is seen only briefly, in a photograph, gazing intently off-screen, as the words "Trust Ted" appear in white and red, then merge into one word: "Trusted."

The Message

Appealing to evangelical Christians is made considerably easier when you can defensibly say you successfully "defended the cross." Coming on strong in Iowa, Mr. Cruz is supplying red meat to social conservatives by portraying himself as a champion on God and guns.

Fact Check

Mr. Cruz worked pro bono while in private practice to aid veterans groups fighting to preserve the Mojave Desert cross on federal parkland in California. As solicitor general of Texas, he helped argue that Texas could have a Ten Commandments monument at the Capitol and keep the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, ...

....

Takeaway

As his rivals seek to establish their credentials with Iowa's voters, Mr. Cruz, who has worked the state for months, is reminding them of his bona fides as a conservative warrior. And the "Trust Ted" / "Trusted" wordplay serves as a subtle counterpoint to his chief competitor in the state: the mercurial Donald J. Trump.

I am afraid that all the truth of Cruz actually fighting government abuses and unConstitutional overreaches are lost in the desperate clamoring for a convenient “strongman”, i.e. Trump.
Those doing so conveniently gloss over or ignore Trump’s willingness to ignore the Constitution when it benefits his business or ego.
Welcome to Weimar America.

I don't buy it. Its all alinskyite hype. He can fill an arena but 90% of those crowds won't be voting in primary races. There's no surge of new registrations and no surge of registrations being changed from Democrat to Republican.

Ted Cruz on the other hand isn't wasting time on suburban and urban moderates. He's concentrating on true flyover country people who will get out and vote in numbers. My township turned out at a rate of 74% in the last primary and that was an unexciting race between Santorum and Romney.

Trump is a media creation and the media is pimping him for the same reason they've ever pimped every other liberal republican.

Interesting article that redirects the truth at the expense of the dreaded "conservatives".

The NYT's headline should read:
"Ted Cruz's Iowa Ad Offers AMERICANS Red Meat on God and Guns".

1) The nation was founded on Judea-Christian principles.

2) The 2dA guarantee that any government formed would not infringe the existing right to bear arms was deemed essential to acquiring agreement by the states of any constitution.

Our enemies would hope such truths fall along the wayside.

Reading FR I have that fear but it is still so early. If Trump’s 3-year-old persona does not take him out I believe Cruz will.

Sorry, but in THIS article in the Slimes, there is no hatred of America on display, merely reporting on the advert; rare for the NYCrimes! Perhaps their ‘Ebenezer Scrooge Christmas’ moment!

Trump is a media creation

Wrong....dead wrong.

Trump is a creation of the establishment, lifetime politicians who double talk their way into power.

Ted's problem is that, while very intelligent, fails to connect with the voters like Trump does. Frankly, Ted's concentration on evangelicals looks like pandering IMO.

"Ted Cruz's Iowa Ad Offers AMERICANS Red Meat on God and Guns".

Agreed. I suspect many Americans will give in to their curiosity to see just how "radically right-wing" Cruz is and come away more comfortable with Cruz because what his Ad "offers" is simply mainstream American values.

Whatever.

FOX hates Trump so much that they’re letting him co host their New Years eve show.

Reverse psychology works on the simple.

First, thanks for the attempt at insults. I paid you respect and that's how you respond. Merry Christmas to you too.

Second, I'd have to have a cable/sat subscription to watch Fox which I don't.

Fox sucks IMO.

You can save your sarcasm for someone who gives a crap about what little bugs like you think.

Your Trump Derangement Syndrome has turned you into a little snotty keyboard troll who gets all upset when their boy Cruz is slighted.

Cruz is my number two guy but if he is anything like his supporters here on FR, he's a piece of garbage like you.

Merry Christmas!
