Sadly enough, this strikes me as pandering and worse, pandering to such a relatively small group as evangelicals, and even more worse, there are many groups bigger than evangelicals who are pretty much just automatically suspicious of anyone who emphasizes their religion too much. Basically, pandering to evangelicals turns off way too many other people and limits Cruz's broader appeal.

So when Trump meets with 100 Black evangelical pastors behind closed doors, he's not pandering
