Maybe he said it on Hewitt's show because he knows nobody was listening. (Except maybe the NSA.)

Just one more reason on a long list of reasons why I won’t vote for this clown.

I err on the side of liberty. Enough is enough. Trump is as bad as the rest.

Cruz has been suffering on this board because he has a voting record and Trump does not.
My contention has been both men are not perfect.
I hope we get all of the details on what both of these guys believe before we cast our votes.

So we’ll just all sit on our hands again (like 2008 & 2012) and let Hildabeast win in 2016?
I’d rather vote for half a conservative and a 100% spit shiny liberal.

"I tend to err on the side of security"How bout erring on the side of the Constitution: Amendment IV: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Hmmmm ... why would Trump fumble an issue that will cost him votes from both the libertarians and the conservatives? Heck, even the base of the democrat party do not approve of the domestic spying privileges provided. Did he misspeak? Or his he throwing the game to Cruz?

Maybe it’s because out of all the national radio talkers Hugh Hewitt is the GOPe frontman, and Trump was just pandering.

A very bad position IMHO. Get rid of patriot act and all spying against Americans without probable cause and a proper, real court order ( not rubber stamp “order” by “secret spy court”). Deport islamics ASAP. Then USA will be reasonably secure again

The blunt tool of NSA spying on every USA citizen is only necessary because the USA is defeated by political correctness and refuses to focus its efforts on radical muslims.

I would bet more than I can afford to lose that Trump knows next to nothing about the Patriot Act, the various provisions of which have a helluva lot more direct impact on US citizens than on any terrorist. If he thinks that the Patriot Act provides greater security, he’s a fool.

Newsweek points out that Donald Trump has held the same position since before the Paris terror attacks. He said this summer, "I support legislation which allows the NSA to hold the bulk metadata. For oversight, I propose that a court, which is available any time on any day, is created to issue individual rulings on when this metadata can be accessed."
This sounds pretty reasonable to someone who has actually been in the signals intelligence business. So I am thinking that Donald Trump has pretty good instincts about this.

That is one area of disagreement right there. He needs to rethink all of this. That is one of the things Americans are mad at. All of this surveillance will not make us more safe. It's an illusion so that we will give up our rights.
To: TBP
I think it’s a mistake on his part, but I don’t think it’s a glaring error for our times.
I would prefer he say, “provided there is no NSA (or other) collection of TOTAL data.”
Then I’d be a bit more comfortable with it. I don’t care that they know 222-555-1212 called 223-555-1627.

I would not worry too much about it.
After all, Trump will change his mind back & forth on this a few times before any ballots get cast.
