Cruz received citizenship through his mother. Cruz was a citizen at birth and did not have to be naturalized, hence his is a natural born citizen.

If Trump wins Iowa, he can darn near run the table. If he comes in second, the door is opened further for Cruz and Rubio to go deeper in to the cycle. Also, Christie will do pretty well in Iowa and will get his ticket to go on.
Iowa does not predict the winner, it winnows the field.

He was born to Canadian citizens in Canada; his mother was born an American citizen but became a Canadian citizen before his birth, which at that time was strictly speaking an action that renounced her American citizenship. The State department often turned a blind eye but if she had to re-naturalize when she moved back Cruz’s natural born status is problematic.
His mom was a certified American citizen at the time.
So he's natural born.

Do you have a link to proof that Cruz’s mother applied for citizenship in Canada? I have not turned up anything in any search to document that.
The issue bar none is the danger of Islam, Cruz is still jabbering about “radical islam” there is no Radical Islam and we need to stop being political correct and call it out what is.
