5.1 magnitude quake detected close to North Korea nuclear test site

by Agence France-Presse

January 6, 2016

A 5.1 magnitude tremor was detected close to North Korea’s nuclear test site on Wednesday, triggering concerns that Pyongyang had conducted a fresh atomic explosion.

The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake was in the northeast of the country, some 50 kilometres (30 miles) northwest of Kilju city, placing it right next to the Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

Thanks for the ping. It should be noted they conducted a missile test from a submarine last month according to intelligence sources.

Maybe Obama can cry a tear for world peace.

Why not just sign a couple of executive actions like anyone who sells or deals in nuclear weapons for profit must get a nuclear weapons dealers license?

You are not really off base. Every time this kind of incident occurs, there are always those who argue that the confrontational policy has failed and ‘engagement’(appeasement) has to be pursued again.

"That’s what I suspect. Call me crazy, but I’m making sure I’m ready for an EMP attack any day now."

High altitude EMP shots would most likely be for the purpose of shutting down communications, transportation and other necessities before nukes hit military targets and cities. In other words, an effort to shut down our ability to respond.

Readers might want to try the following before making plans to build backyard shelters. And "bugout bag" folks remember, you'll only have about 15 minutes' warning, if any, to get at least 30 miles from your city--about 100 mph average speed.

Sunni Gulf nations severing diplomatic relations with Iran, Russia invested militarily in Syria, Russia/Ukraine going at it, Libya in turmoil, Bazillion Muslims invading Europe, Muzzie crime wave in Germany and Nordic countries, Paris Terror, terror in Tunisa, Yemen in flames, Chinese setting up a permanent base in the South China Sea and little Kim blowing off a nuke.

The Obama foreign policy legacy.

I’ve always understood that a hydrogen detonation is a twin-pulse event. A smaller origination detonation followed by the main pulse. Possibly a failed hydrogen bomb test?

Interesting that prior three nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013 were all at Punggye-ri....and Researchers at the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University said last month that recent satellite images showed North Korea was excavating a new tunnel at Punggye-ri.

The numbers work out to a 35-45 kiloton explosion.
