The Pentagon will review over 1,100 medals issued since the 9/11 terror attacks for possible upgrade to the Medal of Honor, the country's highest award for valor in combat.
The review, revealed in documents obtained by USA Today, stems from a study of military decorations and awards ordered in March by then-Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel "to ensure that after 13 years of combat the awards system appropriately recognized the service, sacrifices and action of our service members."
The massive review, ordered by Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, marks one of the biggest steps in decades to honor troops who have gone above and beyond in combat.
Should even a fraction of the troops reviewed be eligible for upgrade, it's possible that dozens could receive the Medal of Honor for their service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Pentagon has been criticized for its complicated, bureaucratic process for awarding the Medal of Honor, such a review could result in the recognition of dozens of troops who did not make it past multiple layers of red tape to receive the award.
In addition to the review, Mr. Carter has also approved several other recommendations, including:

Looking for any LBGT candidates?
Let’s just give one to everyone. Just like Clinton’s Army chief gave every soldier a beret.
I have reservations about this because of this administration and some of the perfumed princes he’s put in high positions. Hopefully this isn’t another of 0bama’s “affirmative action” programs.
Trying to compete with Ray Mabus, Obama and Valeries Secretary of the Navy
Obama wants to turn it into just another Gong
DoD is acknowledging that their policy has had the effect of denying appropriate awards for combat valor while proliferating awards for ever expanding peacetime or administrative functions. The Army was particularly noted for awarding only a few Medal of Honor and Distinguished Service Crosses. On the other hand, the Army, Air Force, and increasingly the other services have awarded very freely the medals in the lower tiers.
They will be given first priority for being “brave” like Bruce Jenner.
Participation trophies have made their way to the Pentagon ...
Looking for diversity
Has to be
This is just a bad idea.
I no longer trust the military to do the right thing, now it is just the politically correct thing.
I have no doubt they are searching for homosexuals and trans gender to reward for “being brave”.
World War I
Casualties 312,518
MoH awarded 119
World War II
Casualties 1,076,245
MoH awarded 472
Korea
Casualties 128,650
MoH awarded 146
Vietnam
Casualties 211,454
MoH awarded 258
Afghan+Iraq
Casualties 57,614
MoH awarded 16
16 looks a bit low, but 1100 is going to really cheapen the award. I expect the additional awards will be made on a ‘politically correct’ basis.
It will have at least two purposes; (1) Degrade the value of the award;(2) Transforming America by awarding politically correct Diverse peoples.
That's exactly what it is. Expect the homo in chief to adorn his queer hero before his term is done.
They’re going to review 1100 cases. Unlikely they will all be upgraded to MOH.
Like Syndrome said in The Incredibles, “When everyone is special, no one will be.”
Yes, probably just the minorities and women.
Why not give everyone The Medal. Wouldn’t want anyone to feel less than wonderful. That is why the Army gave everyone berets - so they could all feel “Special”
As a sage teacher once told us about studying: “He who underlines everything underlines nothing.”
Let’s just give everyone one — for the sake of their self-esteem, and for “equality”.
Merit should have no more place in medals awards than it does in admission to college, the award of degrees, or salaries...
