The GOP establishment has ruined the Republican brand
foxnews.com ^ | 1/8/15 | Brent Bozell

In Politico Tuesday, Republican elites warned that if Donald Trump or Ted Cruz become the nominee it would ruin the Republican brand.

How's that for party unity and loyalty?

More to the point: What brand?

The GOP brand is already ruined. And they ruined it.

snip

For years the GOP elites, along with their high-priced consultants, have cynically manipulated the Republican base, constantly promising to deliver on one issue after another, in order to get elected, yet delivering on nothing because there was never the intention of doing so.

Time and again since 2010, the Republicans have pledged to defund Obamacare. They've had countless opportunities to do so with meaningful legislation. Every time the opportunity has arisen, they've headed for the tall grass. Fail.

Republicans ran tens of thousands of ads in 2014 promising to stop Obama's executive amnesty overreach. The moment to opportunity presented itself – they funded it. Fail.

The Republican leadership declared its intention to stop federal funding of Planned Parenthood for once and for all. No serious effort has been enacted. Fail.

Worth repeating, with emphasis:

The GOP brand is already ruined. And THEY ruined it.

Couldn’t agree more.
Voters now more than ever have less of a distinct reason to choose voting for the Republican party over the Democrat party.
The GOP is hardly any better on fiscal, foreign, constitution or social policies.
Moving the Republican party left was in the cards in order to bring the whole country firmly toward socialism.
Oh to be a fly on the wall to hear those strategy sessions and learn all who signed on to the treachery.
Even better question answered -
Why?

The gang of 535, past and present, has looted the republic. Party affiliation is just kabuki theater to these traitors/criminals.

HOORAY Trump, Carson, Carly. Thanks for running.

Their bluff WILL be called.

The rise of Trump and Cruz (and Carson and Fiorina too) is a direct reaction to the establishment's own criminal incompetence.

Spot ON! Highlight "criminal"

The responses to the online article mentioned the importance of term limits, and IMHO, this is absolutely essential. Actually, it is essential that no one is able to make a career out of politics. Ever. Serve, a cumulative 10 years the absolute most (cumulative from all positions combined - no matter what level), then go back to being a private citizen and live under the laws you wrote or voted for.

The article is absolutely correct that the electorate is manipulated, and those elected feel no requirement or responsibility to keep their promises.

I'm also tired of hearing from the GOPe and others that ‘you need to have someone in there who knows how to get things done in Washington’. No, you don't. What we need are people who refuse to play the games in Washington, and dedicate their time to destroying politics as usual there. What they mean when they say ‘experience’ is someone who they think knows how to play ball, and will.

I don’t think they “ruined” it.
I just think the mask is finally off.

Trump is saying the things that the Republican establishment refuse to say, much less do anything about them. Republicans in Washington have discovered that life is much easier and more lucrative by doing the bidding of the deep pockets. Representing the conservative people of this country is hard work and means that you will be shunned by Washington society dames. They have found the path of corruption and they like it.

Oh, that citizens had not allowed the so-called “progressive” movement (whose ideas are, in fact, regressive), to dominate and control the policies of its federal government for decades! By allowing that bit of chicanery by politicians in both Parties to prevail, liberty is endangered, and tyranny everywhere can be seen.

James Madison’s words of wisdom, as recorded in THE FEDERALIST essays, quoted below, make for good reading as we examine matters during this election year. A few are quoted below:

“If it be asked what is to restrain the House of Representatives from making legal discriminations in favor of themselves and a particular class of the society? I answer, the genius of the whole system, the nature of just and constitutional laws, and above all the vigilant and manly spirit which actuates the people of America, a spirit which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it.” - Federalist Papers, No. 57, February 19, 1788

“An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among the several bodies of magistracy as that no one could transcend their legal limits without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” - Federalist Papers, No. 58, 1788

“This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.” - Federalist Papers, No. 58, 1788

“The propensity of all single and numerous assemblies (is) to yield to the impulse of sudden and violent passions, and to be seduced by factious leaders into intemperate and pernicious resolutions.” - Federalist Papers, No. 62, February 27, 1788

“Every new regulation concerning commerce or revenue; or in any manner affecting the value of the different species of property, presents a new harvest to those who watch the change and can trace its consequences; a harvest reared not by themselves but by the toils and cares of the great body of their fellow citizens. This is a state of things in which it may be said with some truth that laws are made for the few not for the many.” - Federalist Papers, No. 62, February 27, 1788

“It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man who knows what the law is today can guess what is will be tomorrow.” - Federalist Papers, No. 62, February 27, 1788

Note particularly the following words of wisdom from Federalist No. 63:

“As the cool and deliberate sense of the community ought, in all governments, and actually will, in all free governments, ultimately prevail over the views of its rulers; so there are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be the most ready to lament and condemn. In these critical moments, how salutary will be the interference of some temperate and respectable body of citizens, in order to check the misguided career, and to suspend the blow meditated by the people against themselves, until reason, justice, and truth can regain their authority over the public mind?” - Federalist Papers, No. 63, 1788

“Although all men are born free, and all nations might be so, yet too true it is, that slavery has been the general lot of the human race. Ignorant—they have been cheated; asleep—they have been surprised; divided—the yoke has been forced upon them. But what is the lesson? That because the people may betray themselves, they ought to give themselves up, blindfold, to those who have an interest in betraying them? Rather conclude that the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government they should watch over it. . . .” - James Madison

IMO, the bigger problem is part of your ‘solution’: NOT living under the laws/rules they themselves voted (they neither wrote or read though); in OR out of office.

NO govt employee should be above the Law

I’d add a few to your list:
NO benefits paid out of the Treasury (no housing, no car, no security) - they are Citizens voted into office, not royalty.
Blind trust while in the public sector (’insider trading’) - no more leaving $M+ richer than coming in; but how to stop straw-buyers, family-buyers (pillow talk)??
- Fines/jail time should be multiples more of private sector

I like your additions, and agree that they really don’t live under the same laws/rules as the rest of us. There’s a reason why people fight so hard for these positions, and so much money is spent obtaining them.
