Poll: Neck-And-Neck 2016 Races in Iowa, New Hampshire (Iowa Cruz 28 Trump 24, NH Trump 30 Rubio 14)
NBC News ^

Posted on 01/10/2016 9:31:55 AM PST by springwater13

In Iowa, which holds its caucuses on Feb. 1, Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump by four points among likely caucus-goers, 28 percent to 24 percent - within the poll's margin of error of plus-minus 4.6 percentage points. They're followed by Marco Rubio at 13 percent and Ben Carson at 11 percent. No other Republican candidate gets more than 5 percent of the vote.

Yet among the larger universe of potential Iowa caucus-goers, Trump actually leads Cruz by two points, 26 percent to 24 percent, suggesting that a larger turnout could benefit Trump in the state. (Back in October's NBC/WSJ/Marist poll, Trump was at 24 percent among potential caucus-goers, Carson at 19 percent, and Cruz and Rubio at just 6 percent.)

In New Hampshire, which holds its presidential primaries on Feb. 9, Trump gets support from 30 percent of likely Republican primary voters.

He's followed by Marco Rubio at 14 percent, Chris Christie at 12 percent, Ted Cruz at 10 percent, and John Kasich and Jeb Bush tied at 9 percent each.

No matter how the points are allocated between them, if Trump and Cruz can capture 60+ percent of the vote between them, shutting out the GOPe, then all of us here on Free Republic can sleep well that night.

Look for Trump to surge unexpectedly a few days before caucuses open. The msm will have to be honest and save face. Trump will be up by 5-10%.

YES
That is the goal. Keep the GOPee from taking not just the majority but any of the delegates.

That is the NBC News headline. I assume they are talking about Bernie/Hillary numbers.

Registered voters on the marist site in IA .pdf:

Trump 26 Cruz 24 Rubio 13 Carson 11 Bush 6 Paul 5 Huckabee 5. It is all about turnout.

Likely Voters
Men: Cruz 33 Trump 26 Rubio 11 Carson 9.
Women: Trump 22 Cruz 21 Rubio 16 Carson 14.

Registered Voters
Men Trump 30 Cruz 28 Rubio 10 Carson 9.
Women Trump 21 Cruz 18 Rubio 16 Carson 14.

It is the turnout model which uses likely voters, and puts Cruz in front by a little. Trump has so many first-time participants, the pollsters (All of them) either ignore, or don't know how to handle.

You make a good point.

With the party there is some sense can be made of the polls, but in a hypothetical November match-up, the ludicrous margins for Bernie over the GOP makes Marist look like their usual biased selves.

“How is New Hampshire ‘neck and neck?’ “

I was wondering that, too.

It must be the Common Core math.

Cruz’s citizenship questions will help Trump win Iowa.

Even if Trump considered Cruz as VP (which I doubt) there's no way he would tap him as long as the citizen thing is not absolutely resolved...And just like with Obama there will always be doubt. The Democrats won't ever let it go until Cruz is gone.

Trump will never be burdened with Cruz in his administration.

Ted Cruz will never be elected President.
