Conservative groups and Republican donors were supposed to spend millions to take out The Donald before things got out of hand. What happened?
Donald Trump was supposed to be negotiating a new Celebrity Apprentice contract by now.
For seven months, it has been an article of faith among anti-Trump Republicans that the billionaire's calamitous campaign would eventually melt down on its own before things got too serious -- and if it didn't, they assured themselves, a cash-flush coalition of conservative groups, super PACs, and presidential campaigns would chase him out of the race. Attack ads would blanket the airwaves in Iowa. An army of activists would descend on New Hampshire. Trump would be exposed for the charlatan that he is, and he'd drop out before a single vote was ever cast.
But the cavalry never came.
Now, 18 days out from the Iowa caucuses, Trump is leading every national poll by 10 points or more -- and while single-digit candidates and their backers spend millions to bludgeon each other on TV and radio, they've barely lifted a finger to take on the frontrunner.

These people are mostly think tank nerds.
Trump is all action and trash talk.
Good article. Stay strong the paid supporters are out tonight. You can identify them because the attack trump trying to take him down and use nasty comments and behavior making CRUZ look desperate. They never say anything supportive about him because they are hoping by making people think his supporters are “losers” no one will vote for him either. Their goal is to take the top two out so Rubio or Kasich or Christy can move up !
They know they'd be wasting their time. Go Trump Go!
Good post Captain, thank you.
Last nights debate was kabuki
We will have a declarative judgment requested this spring and its findings will destroy o and the rat party. Trump and Cruz both are patriots and love the constitution Anyone who attacks either in my book are not and do not.
:)
no diphthongKrauthammer are actually saying nice things about Trump ... far short of accepting him, but at least their rage is giving away to some objectivity.
Thanks, hoosiermama.
I’d say “they” may not be very smart, but “they” are smart enough to not throw money away. Trying to out-spend Trump is like what Mark Twain said about never arguing with a man who buys ink by the barrel.
Something occured to me while watching the debate that has caused me to think about Trump in a new way. For many of us, our fathers and grandfathers who were part of the Greatest Generation who fought in WWII to protect and save the American way of life have been the biggest influences on our lives, and on our values and world view.
Donald Trump is not of that generation, but he echoes it’s spirit better than anyone since Ronald Reagan. He loves this country and sincerely wants to make it great again... that’s not just a slogan. As I listen to him speak, I hear the voices of people like my dad, a decorated WWII veteran, and his friends who are no longer with us, but whose love of country was unquestioned, and whose primary goal in life was to protect this great nation for future generations.
Trump epitomizes the American Dream through his accomplishments in business, but he also captures the spirit and patriotism of the Greatest Generation.
Nice!
Good post.
No I think it’s because we are seeing DU transplants make it over to see their liberal hope and change make it through. You cannot erase 20 yrs of history on this man just as Obama went to that church he never went to. Or maybe you like more speeches which deliver the following
“his plan will be fabulous. It will be the most fabulous plan you ever saw. It will be because trump will use the best people. He knows great people. Trust him. He makes the most fabulous deals. The greatest deals. And he will employ the greatest negotiators. Mean negotiators, Nasty Negotiators. Negotiators that are great like him, but ones that you would hate if you knew them...
And don’t forget - Trump will Make America Great Again (somehow)! “
Whatever people think about Trump, he has brought more interest, fascination (even if morbid fascination in some circles), discussion, attention, and publicity to the Republican side of the race than it’s had in years. He’s got people thinking and talking and discussing issues. He’s got people watching the debates and sorting through their own views about things. All that’s been good.
Overall, it seems he has been very good for the Republicans, even though lots of them would like to tar and feather him. The libs are stuck with thier retreads. We actually have some interesting candidates. I could handle any of the top 3 or 4 over Hillary.
Charles said Trump “won” the “New York Values” moment with Cruz.
I shut off the TV at that point, of the NY moment. I thought it was so stupid.
I will never forget 9/11 as long as I live, as a Bostonian, it is indelibly stamped in my memory, as is the bombing.
We are considered Massholes in spite of that, yet Trump gets all pissy about a direct insult to De Blasio, Cuomo, Sheldon Silver, Weiner Weiner, Shmucky Chewmore, Hillary the Carpetbagger etc. Puhleeze.
He donated to all of these socialist liars.
Hmm... This is very interesting read, thanks for posting.
Few take aways...
- Rick Wilson and Liz Miar are pro Rubio hacks who take to twitter every night bashing Trump and Cruz.
- That latino Group that is willing to spend $300,000 to get Latinos to caucas against Trump should instead give that money to pro-Cruz freepers who live out of state! At least that cash can go to some good people ;)
- Trump and Cruz are two great men and patriots. Supporters can mix it up, but in the end I respect both VERY much and would be honored to have either as my President.
That’s a very interesting theory. We shall see.
The only candidate for POTUS currently running against the NWO is Donald Trump.
All the rest of them are focused on who gets a better chair position on the sinking ship...
Beautifully said. I feel exactly as you do and believe it is what is resonating with people and the explanation of the huge crowds Trump draws. The American Spirit is definitely alive and well in Donald Trump. People want to share it with him and be true blue Americans again. We’ve taken enough brow beating and being told we are the reason for all the wrong in the world. We will be proud to be Americans again with Trump at the helm.
I agree with your assessment.
