A senior scientist at NASA has announced in the New York Times that he has terminal cancer. This is sad. Whatâs sadder, though, is that he has chosen to exploit his personal tragedy for the purposes of promoting climate change alarmism. Here is how Piers Sellers (pictured) â acting director of NASAâs Earth Sciences division â begins his New York Times article:
I'm a climate scientist who has just been told I have Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This diagnosis puts me in an interesting position. I've spent much of my professional life thinking about the science of climate change, which is best viewed through a multidecadal lens. At some level I was sure that, even at my present age of 60, I would live to see the most critical part of the problem, and its possible solutions, play out in my lifetime. Now that my personal horizon has been steeply foreshortened, I was forced to decide how to spend my remaining time. Was continuing to think about climate change worth the bother?
At the risk of being ungracious to the terminally ill, the correct answer to that question on any number of levels is "No." But Sellers disagrees. He uses that intro as an excuse to spout the usual litany of nonsense so beloved by the climate alarmist establishment - "steady accumulation of evidence", "climate change is real", "computer models", "unforeseen, disastrous events" â expecting his audience to receive it sympathetically because, hell, he's got terminal cancer and if he says something is important it jolly well must be, right?

Bye felicia.
Is he developing the webbed feet and gills yet?
Piers neglected to mention how higher taxes would change the climate.
Another English biologist just doing the job that Americans won’t do.
People with limited time should probably focus on Honesty.
But this guy feels differently.
I am aware that there is a correlation between smoking and pancreatic cancer. I am unaware of any correlation between global warming and pancreatic cancer.
“NASA Chief: Global Warming is Real Because I Have Cancer”
This is the kind of idiotic and false headline I am coming to expect from Breitbart. He does NOT say GW is real because he has cancer. He says that it is real and worth continuing to deal with even though he has a short life expectancy. Since false and misleading headlines are becoming increasingly common I urge everyone to read the actual article before responding or going irate. Do it for your blood pressure.
Was continuing to think about climate change worth the bother? As one of the wisest men who ever lived put it, it is vanity and vexation of spirit, so the answer is no. Try thinking about the Maker of the universe for a change.
You have to admit that “appeals to emotion” are the primary evidence for AGW?
Yes, he’s a fraud.
BS in ecology.
Ph.D in something called “biometeorology”
Probably not the best guy to talk about the actual chemistry and physics of GoreBull warming.
An astronaut, though.
He is wandering away from his real NASA mission: Muslim outreach.
“I’ve spent much of my professional life thinking about the science of climate change, which is best viewed through a multidecadal lens.”
multidecadal lens?
I looked for a definition on what this is. Can’t find one.
So am I to assume that it means multiples of ten lens?
A microscope maybe?
Some people pull that elitist speak right out of their
coulo. Of course I’m stating the obvious here, all liberal
thought and speech comes from there.
“At the risk of being ungracious to the terminally ill,”
Well now if that isn’t the hammer hitting the nail on the head here. Of course you cant criticize the ignorant morons
death thrall rants, he’s sick so you have to kiss his...
That’s the only reason he is in the news. He can spout the
biggest lie he can and no one can criticize him because
he’s sick. I equate it to radical muslims hiding behind
children for cover.
But, but, in the first line of his op-ed, he describes himself explicitly as a “climate scientist”. He can’t be joshing us, can he?
The all powerful global warming.
Gives cancer, causes terrorism, tax hikes, gas price fluctuations, sports team game losses, hair loss, incontinence, impotence, and fits of hysteria.
Worshipped as an angry deity that must be appeased by sacrifice.
“Since heâs using his illness to promote the lie, the headline is true. Try looking at the title of his op-ed, which is âCancer and Climate Changeââcannot get more blatant than that”.
Not even remotely did he claim that GW is real because he has cancer. A dying man making an emotional appeal for action on something he believes in in no way infers that the belief is real because he is dying. If anything the headline could be interpreted as the guy is dying because of GW. There are plenty of things to be outraged at, we dont need to purposely mislead people and invent outrageous statements.
