North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr (Liberty Score® - F) recently said at a fundraiser for his tight re-election campaign that he would vote for Bernie Sanders in a Sanders vs. Cruz general election. This could send shockwaves through his primary campaign against Dr. Greg Brannon set for Tuesday, March 15.
The establishment is so scared of Ted Cruz removing their access to power that they would line up and vote for the socialist Bernie Sanders.
The Associated Press reported that Burr said:
Still, Cruz has become such a pariah that one of his colleagues, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, told supporters at a campaign fundraiser for his own re-election that he would vote for liberal Sen. Bernie Sanders for president before Cruz, according to one person who attended the event. Burr did not appear to be joking, said the person, who demanded anonymity to discuss the private gathering.
This isn’t the first time that the Burr team has attacked Cruz. Back in December, a Burr staffer tried to imply that Cruz violated the Espionage Act during an answer on the NSA in a debate.
The establishment is so scared of Ted Cruz removing their access to power that they would line up and vote for the socialist Bernie Sanders. Back in December, I wrote as to why the establishment so fears Cruz:
Trump is a dealmaker running a campaign as a disrupter to the status quo. Cruz is a proven disrupter to the status quo. That is a very big difference indeed.
The political industrial complex believes deep down that they can negotiate with the author of The Art of the Deal; they know they will lose the levers of power with Ted Cruz. You can see it in the voracity and frequency of their attacks.
The establishment consultants and chattering class know they have the most to lose with a Cruz presidency. What do they lose with a Cruz presidency? The very levers of power by which they enrich themselves: the Republican Party apparatus.
This latest move by Burr is part of a series of establishment efforts to undercut a Cruz nomination. This includes former Senator Bob Dole attacking Cruz yesterday in the New York Times:
“I question his allegiance to the party,” Mr. Dole said of Mr. Cruz. “I don’t know how often you’ve heard him say the word ‘Republican’ — not very often.” Instead, Mr. Cruz uses the word “”conservative,” Mr. Dole said, before offering up a different word for Mr. Cruz: “extremist.”
Burr’s opponent, Dr. Brannon, said that fighting against “go-along-to-get-along Republicans” like Burr is why he is running for Senate. Here is a highlight from Dr. Brannon’s press release:
We’re facing the greatest threat to liberty in our lifetime” said Brannon. “Now is not the time for go-along-to-get-along Republicans. Now is the time for courage. It’s a time to stand up and fight for our values before it’s too late.”
Brannon insisted that “if we don’t stand up and fight to defend the principles that made this country great, we will watch as the American Dream vanishes for future generations. I care deeply about the America we will leave behind for my seven children — and the 9,000 babies I’ve been blessed to deliver.”
Brannon added that Burr “likes to call himself a conservative - but you and I know politicians love to use words like the constitution or conservative during election season to distract us from the truth. And the truth is, Richard Burr is part of the House of Cards Washington Cartel.
This latest revelation from Richard Burr may give his opponent Dr. Brannon an opening. The election is less than two months away. Then it will be known if the opening was wide enough to unseat Burr.
