How stupid and vicious do they think we are? That's a question that I think explains a lot of things about politics and society today -- and about this year's unpredicted presidential race.
The "us" in that question are ordinary citizens and the "they" are political and media elites who hold them in contempt -- which they do over and over again by trying to obfuscate and cover up the source and motives of terrorist attacks.
Barack Obama, who refuses to use phrases akin to "Islamist terrorism" is a prime, but far from the only, offender. His predecessor, George W. Bush, after the attacks of Sept. 11 made a point of visiting mosques and calling Islam a religion of peace.
Undoubtedly, he then feared that many Americans would attack and assault Muslims, actual or perceived, and a very few such attacks occurred. But government statistics count far fewer "hate crimes" against Muslims than against Jews.
Nonetheless Obama still behaves as if any suggestion that terrorists shouting "Allahu akbar!" has something to do with Islam will spark massacres and persecution across the country. The American people are seen as a great beast, incapable of reason or cool judgment. Stupid and vicious.
So they must be reminded that they are not morally superior to terrorists. At a national prayer breakfast Obama felt obliged to remind Americans that Christians attacked Muslims -- in the Crusades 800 years ago.
Others have followed his example. In a press conference earlier this month Philadelphia police officials described how a Muslim dressed in a white religious robe fired multiple rounds at a police officer, "in the name of Islam," as he said after his arrest. You could see it on videotape.

James Burnham's "Suicide of the West" promotes the thesis that a society that does NOT believe and assert that it is morally superior to others, is doomed. I find that thesis to be sound. Liberals and elites (but I repeat myself) are determined to kill off Western Civilization by whatever means necessary.
Barone himself knows the elites very well - he’s a longtime gay-marriage backer who has contempt for the Christian rubes in flyover country.
I like the way the elites are stressed out over Trump. Kraut the Hammer looked like he was going to have to be admitted on O’Really.

It’s all a media creation. The talking heads - who see themselves as “mini-celebrities” - provide a willing stage and liberal impetus for the elites to push their ideology on the rest of us.
They know that most politicians are putty in their hands who will do/say anything to stay on the good side of the press. More rules, regulations, and political correctness have their roots with journalistic types, and the dems and RINOs fall in line to avoid persecution.
The media has been running the country via consequences to those who balk them...for years. It thinks it is congress, the police, judges, and opinion maker for the whole country.
It was never “Bush’s fault”, it was always the “media’s fault”.

No, they’re not afraid that “many Americans would attack and assault Muslims”. They are afraid that too many Muslims are like vials of nitro-glycerin, ready to explode after the slightest provocation. Think “battered wives” syndrome. They are doing all they can to placate the Muslim community. It won’t work.
Bush refused to fight in public for what was right, thereby leaving his supporters high and dry.
We'll be paying the for his diffidence for decades to come.

Bingo. That and his “peaceful, friendly religion” nonsense were two of the major blunders of his Administration.
I know it’s been an interesting primary season, but in the end, we’re going to send another elite/financial sector hand-picked person to the White House. And that’s how stupid we are.

I agree Bush’s omissions hurt America far more than many things he did. Even many of the mistakes like “ no child left behind” we’re his capitulation and unwillingness to fight liberal BS.
And his demented adventure as evangelist for democracy in the middle east.
