Believers Must Not Divide in the Midst of this Political Season
Townhall.com ^ | January 29, 2016 | Michael Brown

Posted on 01/29/2016 9:58:14 AM PST by Kaslin

If you've been following my ministry for any length of time, you know that I constantly address issues of concern to me in the news, whether they have to do with moral, cultural or spiritual issues and whether they pertain to America, Israel, or the nations.

So, it should not surprise you that I'm frequently addressing the presidential elections, often with conviction and strong points of view.

That being said, if you and I love God and Jesus is our Lord and the Word of God is our final authority, it is important THAT WE DO NOT DIVIDE over these issues, as passionate as we might be.

We can respectfully agree to disagree without engaging in sinful judgment against one another, and above all, we can give ourselves to the gospel and pray for God's best for our nation.

I endorsed Sen. Cruz because I was convinced that he was a committed believer who shared my core values and that he had a proven record of taking on the Republican (and Congressional) establishment, something I felt was absolutely essential if we were to see positive change come to our nation.

My feelings about Sen. Cruz remain the same to this day.

At the same time, I am not here to be his defender or apologist and there are other candidates I respect and would vote for if they were nominated.

I do have grave concerns about a Trump presidency and I have real concerns about evangelical Christians backing him, unless they said: "We know he's not a believer or a God-fearing man, but we believe that God is raising him up, as unlikely as it seems, for His own purposes, and that's why I support him."

I still would not agree with that personally (but let God be God!), but I would not have a problem with that perspective.

My problem is when believers either overlook his massive character flaws or claim that he's actually a Christian or a God-fearing man. That's what concerns me.

Having said all that, my mission is to please the Lord, not to campaign for one candidate or bring down another, so my posts and comments and articles and radio shows and videos will reflect that.

So, let's pray for our nation and let's pray for the candidates, and let's pray for one another.

Awakening must start with us, and if we view one another as enemies rather than co-workers, we'll have an even bigger problem to face.

May God cause us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world like never before!

As much as many Americans reject the Church, America desperately needs the Church to be the Church.

The fate of the nation will be determined by what happens in God's house even more than what happens in the White House, as massively important as the presidency is.

The great thing about being a protestant evangelical is that we don’t have a pope to tell us what God wants. We get to try and discern that for ourselves.

I understand and share his point of view.

National sovereignty is the bedrock issue this time out, and the only ones running who are solid on this issue are Cruz and Trump.

Cruz is my first choice. Trump is my second.

Trump is the kind of guy that, everything his supporters say about him, and everything his detractors say about him, are all true. On every issue except the border and trade, he is going to give us gray hairs over the next 4 or 8 years. But the border is that important that if it isn’t Cruz, it had better be Trump.

Unite behind whatever politician turd is the hottest and freshest. Where else are you gonna go? Vote for the turd with the R behind their name.

I would say to Mr. Brown that the man or woman God raises up to fight for this nation would not be born in Canada to a Cuban father.

The Bible does give some good tips.

Exodus 18:21
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God — men of truth, hating covetousness — and place such over them to be rulers of thousands and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties and rulers of tens.

I agree with Mr. Brown’s statement: “So, let’s pray for our nation and let’s pray for the candidates, and let’s pray for one another.”

Would a believer today vote for an adulterer and murderer to lead a country. Probably not, Yet, God used David to do just that!

It would be wise to leave the selection of who should lead our country to God and stop the self righteous justification that so many expound.

Are Christians following God’s Word? Let us pray for God’s will be done in America. Help us LORD to see truth and follow it. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Anyone who hates evil for its sake has to be getting that from the fear of God, however ill understood.

Are they believing in a Christ Who could even bless His way out of a wet paper bag?

Everybody is so big on the morality, nobody is big on the engine.

Thank you for that scripture. I am bound by the Word of God in my decision for whom to vote. Knowing that God changes not, there will never be a circumstance (short of hearing God’s voice which would have to be loud and clear rather than still and small) under which I would vote for Donald Trump.*

*I could change my mind on this if I saw Trump get serious about his relationship with the Lord. If after some years of discipleship he began to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as well as humility before God, I would be willing to give him a second look. Perhaps then I’d find him to be sincere and believable. At this point, I believe him to be a con artist who is successfully tickling itchy ears. I find that incredibly sad. IMHO, Donald Trump isn’t our biggest problem. The electorate is.

Agreed. The Bible also says, “Cursed is the man who trusts in man”.

That was a commandment to the Israelites at that particular time. Good uses whom he wants as his instrument and it makes little sense to us many time. Saul, King David, Nebuchadnezzer, Darius, Cyrus....

Romans 13:1 rings a bell...

God uses whom he wants as his instrument.

Amen! Very true! But cold comfort if God chooses to punish America with an incompetent tyrant.

Romans 9:17
For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

Re: Exodus - It was actually wonderful and timeless advise from Jethro (father-in-law of Moses) to Moses. I can't imagine any modern objection to any of the requirements.

Psalm 40:4
Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalm 118:8
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Jeremiah 17:5
Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.
