The author is not equating Cruz with Christ. You know perfectly well that we use the term “crucify” to describe a person who is being persecuted, severely attached, thrown under the bus etc.

Ted is being persecuted?

That is absurd.

Trump got 3 times the vote in New Hampshire.

Cruz had a whopping 200 people at his Myrtle Beach rally yesterday.

While Trump has thousands in Pendleton SC.

But I will say the Super Pac's have gone after Cruz with non stop commercials. Showing all of Cruz's lies on Immigrations B-1 Visas and Eminent Domain he supported in Senate Debate

The juxtaposition of your handle, with your argument, is awesome. Not in a good way, but awesome.

Someone of with the supposed smarts of Cruz using misdirection with words?
I'd bet he knows the difference in meaning and connotation.

Persecute
subject (someone) to hostility and ill-treatment, especially
because of their race or political or religious beliefs.

Crucify
put (someone) to death by nailing or binding them to a
cross, especially as an ancient punishment.
