Bernie Sanders this week became the first non-Christian ever to win a presidential primary in U.S. history - conservative Christians feel under siege.
Adlai Stevenson was a Unitarian and therefore, in many people's minds, not a Christian. So was William Howard Taft (but not his son Robert A. Taft). Both won at least one primary.

Weren’t the original Unitarians explicitly Christian? I think today’s Universalist Unitarians are quite a bit different from the original.
