I realize that as an evangelical Christian I have a dog in this fight, but I want to say a few words about evangelicals and the unfortunate effort afoot to make them the political boogeyman.
There are so many misconceptions about "evangelicals" - from the definition of the word to the intentions of the people themselves - but the most damaging myth is that we evangelicals seek a theocracy for the United States of America, which couldn't be further from the truth. I'll get back to that, but first a little background.
Recently I've had several people ask me what the deal is with Ted Cruz and "the evangelicals." The people inquiring are Christians, some even evangelicals. They ask, "What exactly is an evangelical, anyway?"
In our culture, the term is used rather loosely - and, more often than I'd like, pejoratively. I'm seeing columns, blog posts and tweets galore suggesting in hushed terms that Ted Cruz adheres to some fringe philosophy that Christians must take over the world. It's not enough to accuse them of advocating a theocracy limited merely to the United States. No, world domination is their aim. This fear-mongering propaganda needs to be addressed and discredited. ...
Most of America's Founding Fathers were strong practicing Christians, who believed that man was created in G0D's image and likeness, which means that man has intrinsic worth and dignity. It is that firm conviction that leads to the notion that man is endowed with inalienable rights - that he has G0D-given liberties. The Biblical affirmation of man's inherent worth, then, is indispensable to the unique political liberty Americans have historically enjoyed.

Cruz fits that profile right down to the doctrine of rapture... How can I believe in somebody who expects to get a free ride out of here before the really bad stuff happens.
Sorry, understood the last sentence to be
....................
“I thought he was Catholic.”
..........................
and the post posted was a feeble attempt to clarify that statement. Must have misunderstood.
Will try to do better??? :)
No I am NOT making this up, and I am not misrepresenting the Cruz religion.
Ah, I see your faith means a great deal to you So you and yours will bear the blame when your man inundates the high court with 3 liberal justices? At least we’ll get a wall huh?
He already named two strong justices he would name to the court. This has been discussed millions of times. I know Cruz is your guy but nobody ever can explain to me how he will win Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida. Trump can win those states. Cruz will win southern states and what?
Thanks for the post!
To my mind an evangelical is a Christian who wants to share his faith and not hide it under a bushel.
Cruz is a snake oil salesman.
...ol nappyhead showing up with his deranged trash as usual... boy I bet you’ve turned hundreds, no THOUSANDS of Cruz supports to your boy the progressive Trumpet! Wow what a campaigner you are for the conservative cause, if you ever knew what that was. Disgustingly shallow non thinking waste of bandwidth, but that’s the ususal.
ymmv
It will be an American celebration the day Cruz suspends his campaign. Don’t you love the fact that you are supporting a loser and getting all bent out of shape because I support a winner. What kinda of person are you to complain to me celebrating the most brilliant campaigner in generations. The bitterness from you guys is astonishing.
They arrive at the number of evangelicals by adding up the membership of certain Protestant denominations and some number of conservative Catholics. I don’t think it means much. Those numbers will catch some truly devout Christians, as well as large numbers of folks in pews because it’s better for business, or for better for political office.
It’s safe to say that those considered evangelicals encompass a wide range of people who attend church for a wide range of reasons and motives.
Nope, no bitterness, you have the perception of a snail... just astonishment that your idiocy on a conservative forum passes as thoughtful posting. You celebrate a liar in Strumpet who campaigns as a reality TV star and then complain about the level of politics in the country as it circles the drain. You are a huge part of the problem, but as long as you support a “winner” (actually he’s a whiner) you’re good. Cruz is not and never will be a loser based on his integrity and intellect, but you keep rooting for the hairpiece and we’ll see what you actually win in the long run.
..a Republic, if you can keep it... ymmv
You are welcome Pilgrim.

Yes and not to be judgmental but Dominionism is a little out there for most of us.
Goldman Sacks does explain the 'market place'.... but think of all the wealth one could send to the priest as president?
Look, I understand the “Trump” thing. I think that by nature he is an opportunist who is morally bankrupt, a man who is a chameleon for political expediency. He’s a guy who will say anything to seal the deal. I think we will all be very disappointed when actions have to be put to his words. I also think that he is a man who gets what he wants and a man who will treat the constitution with the same respect that BHO has shown it. These are my fears. I understand the guy, or I think I do, and the fact that he’s gonna “build a wall” only gets us so far down the road.
