Thomas Sowell endorses Ted Cruz, slams ‘overgrown spoiled brat’ Donald Trump
Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, February 16, 2016 | Jessica Chasmar

Economist and conservative thinker Thomas Sowell has endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president, saying his Republican rival Donald Trump would lead the party — and the country — to “disaster.”

In an op-ed Tuesday for Real Clear Politics, Mr. Sowell,. . . . .

“Whatever the achievements of anyone in some other field, we cannot afford a novice in the complex world of politics and government at a time of grave dangers at home and internationally,” Mr. Sowell wrote. “Some seem to think that Donald Trump’s lead in the polls and in the New Hampshire primary make him the most electable candidate, even if he often acts like an overgrown spoiled brat.

“If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be?” he asked. “Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?”

Mr. Sowell continued: “If the Republicans are to avoid having Donald Trump lead them — and the country — to disaster, they are going to have to have the majority of non-Trump supporters get behind some given candidate. Senator Ted Cruz has been criticized in this column before, and will undoubtedly be criticized here again. But we can only make our choices among those actually available, and Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind. As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, he will know how important choosing Justice Scalia’s replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more.”

VERY unfair. The Donald was a victim of New York values...and hanging around too many liberals.

He is now a CONSERVATIVE. Ask him.

Donald Trump registered as a Republican for the first time as a 41 year old in 1987. We know from his own recounting that he grew up (or, at least, got older) as a Democrat. Twelve years later, in 1999, Trump walked away from the GOP to run as a candidate for the Independence Party. Then in 2001 his liberal sensibilities (remember he was still pro-choice, anti-gun and for higher taxes in 2001) drove him to register as a Democrat. It was not until 2009 that Trump changed his mind again. Donald Trump was a Democrat as recently as 2009. Trump registered as a Republican once again. However, Trump left the GOP again in 2011, registering instead as an independent before returning to the GOP again in April of 2012.

So, I think his name should be written as

Donald Trump (D, R, I, D, R, I, R - NEW YORK)

A reliable Conservative we can count on!

Does anyone know who Sowell is supporting.

For some reason I keep missing it. Some folks keep saying they know, but I haven’t seen anyone say who it was yet.

Do you know SoConPubbie?

It must just be me who’s in the dark here.

Sure wish someone would post an article or 99 on it.

Thomas Sowell has been one of the great voices of conservatism for a generation.

He remains so.

How many of Sowell’s books have you read. He’s not ignorant. He disagrees with you.

That is too harsh. I will note though that people who’s retirement is already secure will be more likely to endorse Cruz. Those still worried about theirs....not so much.

Sad that Sowell’s moved so far left in his old age, but even so, he will always be a HERO to me.

If, by some miracle, Trump became president

I guess Mr. Sowell doesn't talk to the people much.

You are the ignorant one. You can’t even write correctly. I see it all the time from the Trumpkins, who just barge in insulting everyone in sight, often with poor spelling and writing at the 3rd grade level.

Thomas Sowell is a great conservative. You don’t have to agree with him, but he’s a lot smarter than you are.

Cruz ‘character’:
1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote.
2. Claiming Carson quit, ‘vote for me’
3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video ‘vote for me’ with his preacher/father stomping for him.
4. ‘Brilliant’ lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.

Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize and repeat?
