Trump clarifies Anderson Cooper remarks on Obamacare mandate
Twitter ^

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 26m26 minutes ago

I was asked about healthcare by Anderson Cooper & have been consistent- I will repeal all of #ObamaCare, including the mandate, period.

I was referring to a backstop for pre-existing conditions. I will eliminate the law, in its entirety, & replace it w/ something much better.

I will replace it with private plans, health savings accounts, & allow purchasing across state lines. Maximum choice & freedom for consumer.

I'm self-funding and I am going to take care of the people – not the special interests and insurance companies like the other candidates.

Remember, Cruz and Bush gave us Roberts who upheld #ObamaCare twice! I am the only one who will #MAKEAMERICAGREATAGAIN!

Why WHY WHY!!!! does the only guy in the race who’s right on immigration, trade, and national sovereignty issues also have to be such a dope when people ask him about stuff like health care?

How hard is it to have a staffer train him to say “Repeal and replace with a real free market alternative”?
________________________________________________________

Well he isn’t the only guy who is right on immigration. Cruz’s plan is even better 11 pages online.

As to the rest Trump is a life long left winger. 69 yr old leopards don’t change their spots. If he were in his 20’s or 30’s his attaump to become a conservative would be believable but in his late 60’s. No way.

I am 63 if you have a core set of beliefs you don’t go in a new direction.

Sounds like a Clinton with all the double speak...

The man supports universal healthcare.

Fine.

That’s his opinion.

He can be a socialist all he wants, I’m fine being the “heartless” conservative...

What a JOKE Donald J. Trump is. How can ANYONE seriously support this man.

“If everybody can buy cheap insurance, with mandates, costs come down for everybody...”

My pastor pays $700/month for health insurance. He’s 60. My BIL retires next year, and they are looking at $1200/month for health insurance. I’m retired military, so my insurance is dirt cheap compared to most. But...in what sense are we better off with mandates?

BTW - met a guy yesterday who is paying $14,000/year in health insurance premiums. About the same as my sister is being told to expect. My sister and BIL are thinking about paying the fines instead and doing without. Her comment? “It has reached a point where if we die, we die...but we cannot afford insurance”.

Gosh do you think Red State, Hot Air, and others will print the clarification.

Didn’t think so.

He is lying to cover up his slip of the tongue hen he told the truth. After all this isn’t the first time he had to ‘clarify’ his left wing position on health care.

I voted for Carter in 1980. During the next 4 years, I saw everything Reagan said come true, and everything Carter said proven false. I was a conservative by 1984.

Trump saying he "likes the man date" would explain his popularity with the log-cabin republicans.

Well, he’s saying he will negotiate and cut deals more in line with our interests. Negotiating for us rather than against us. Get the other side to move our way rather than us caving to their demands like the RINOs always do.

“So I guess the pre-existing conditions cases go to medicaid.”

That’s where it should go, there or medicare. Most pre-existing condition stuff is with the older generation and goes to medicare anyway.

I’ve never met someone who so frequently, almost multiple times per day, has to walk back things he said while saying that’s not what he said or he didn’t mean it that way.

He is definitely not making communicating great again

Anderson Cooper had defined the mandate in the question that Trump was responding to. Here is the question that Anderson Cooper asked Trump minus Cooper’s speech stumble in the middle of the question. “If Obamacare is repealed and there is no mandate for everybody to have insurance...why would an insurance company ensure someone with pre-existing conditions?”

Cooper clearly defined the mandate in his question. He defined it as the “mandate for everybody to have insurance.” Doesn’t this make it clear that when Trump said he liked the mandate he was talking about the “mandate for everybody to have insurance.”

How will they maintain a firearm by mandate if they don’t have one?

Yes, but the cornerstone of Obamacare is the Individual Mandate. And no matter what statements Trump tries to put out today it is clear that last night he was supporting the mandate that everyone has to purchase insurance. So, can we really assume that Trump is going to repeal Obamacare - he seems to like a lot of it.

What you see is what you get with Trump. He doesn’t have ‘handlers’ and trainers like the rest of them do.

“Any government-mandated “backstop” to cover people with pre-existing conditions will create a YUGE dis-incentive for people to purchase their own insurance.”

You keep saying that and it’s not true.

Yes, of course I agree.

It’s a state and local responsibility.
