This was not a good idea IMO.

This was not a good idea IMO.Cruz's campaign and his PACs are tone-deaf. He has a reputation now for "whatever it takes" campaigning, and he's defended his campaign's tactics. Adding to the pile of questionable strategies is like adding to a pile of snow....at some point it becomes a glacier.
The thing is, brought up in an honest way, during the campaign, the issue would have been valid. Did Cruz speak out on the assault on Confederate history? If so, he could've aired that issue in an honest way. But now, it looks like he was playing nice so as not to offend Nikki Haley and others.

I found a source for Cruz's past statements about the Confederate flag. In the New York Times, on June 20, 2015, Michael Barbaro wrote an article under "Campaign 2016" summarizing some candidate views about the Confederate flag issue. Cruz is quoted as saying it was up to South Carolina to decide. Then he said two different views. One which could be quoted to one side of the issue. One to the other.
Thus, the robocall was misguided. It isn't an issue where Cruz clearly stood in favor of the Confederate flag, in fact seemed to acknowledge that he wasn't going to disagree with Nikki Haley.

Agree. It was not a good idea. Regardless of what side of the discussion people are on, the flag issue brought division in SC. Bad idea for the Cruz campaign.
