Donald Trump: Don't hand federal lands to states
CBS News ^ | January 23, 2016 | Reena Flores

Real estate mogul Donald Trump would not let states take control of federal lands, the Republican presidential candidate said in a recent interview.

"I don't like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don't know what the state is going to do," Trump said during a talk with Field & Stream magazine earlier this week.

The trade publication, sitting down with Trump at Las Vegas' Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show, had asked about the issue of turning over federally controlled lands to individual states -- an idea previously floated by rival 2016 contender and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and supported by staunch states-rights activists.

The proposal has also received more attention in light of recent actions by radical conservatives like Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his son Ammon Bundy, who led an armed group earlier this month in occupying a national wildlife refuge in Oregon to protest federal land use policies.

Trump cautioned, however, that states would be unpredictable in maintaining the designated lands.

"I mean, are they going to sell if they get into a little bit of trouble?" Trump asked. "I don't think it's something that should be sold."

He added: "We have to be great stewards of this land. This is magnificent land. And we have to be great stewards of this land."

The billionaire businessman suggested later in the interview that while he was a fan of oil and gas companies drilling and fracking on federal lands, protecting the earth should still be a top priority.

"I'm very much into energy, and I'm very much into fracking and drilling, and we never want to be hostage again to OPEC and go back to where we were. And right now, we're at a very interesting point because right now there's so much energy," Trump said. "And maybe that's an advantage and maybe--actually, it's more of an advantage in terms of your question because we don't have to do the kind of drilling that we did."

"I am for energy exploration, as long as we don't do anything to damage the land. And right now we don't need too much -- there's a lot of energy," he said.

Asking you a simple question constitutes a “temper tantrum” to you? How about you gather a thought or two and try answering it?

Is there absolutely nothing about which you think Trump is wrong? Or is he just so infallible and brilliant his judgment must never be called to question?

That's what you call a simple question? I call it an act of a toddler who just realized he is not mom's milk anymore.

Should raise his polls numbers even more. I know, it confuses Trump distractors, but get used to it.

No, Joey.

Try again. Focus... Deep breath.. and try to answer my question. And for God’s sake.. stop acting so personally wounded every time someone voices criticism toward your candidate.

Does that mean the material can’t be posted, or that it can’t be attributed to Bennett?

I’m trying to turn over a new leaf, but you are not making it easy on me. Very well. There are lots of things I don’t like about Trump, I don’t like his position on eminent domain or federal lands and many other things. But I love what he is going to do with immigration, national security, the economy and trade. With out those things getting done, nothing else matters. Trump is the only candidate with the right platform to fix those issues and in not owned by big money donors. There, happy now.

Yeah, because federal employees never allow millions of gallons of toxic waste to escape abandoned mines in Colorado and pollute rivers and lakes.

Oh. Wait. Turns out I was wrong about that.

Yeah, because federal employees never deliberately set fires that burn cattle alive and destroys homes and ranches.

Oh. Wait. Turns out I was wrong about that.

He is not being too successful at coming up with nuanced answers to complex problems. He caught heck for his very generalized answer to a very specific question about nuclear armament policy. But at least, unlike Barry Goldwater, who still managed to be nominated Presidential candidate, he did not say anything about “Lobbing one into the men’s room at the Kremlin.”

I have no doubt Cruz is the better person of any of them left in the race. I will not disagree with you on that at all.

Are you seriously going to try and convince yourself that Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are avid hunters? Donald Trump sides with the federal government owning a third of all land but thankfully we have you to tell US what Trump’s core beliefs really are..

Slightly different agendas, perhaps.

You are a harsh one. There is no reason to think Trump is an American Hating Muslim. He may do something stupid but I doubt he will do any thing purposely to hurt America or Americans.

Paying a fortune to go on an African safari, which is about as challenging as shooting fish in a barrel, and the great Iowa hunting trip to win over voters who might not be open to a NY liberal that supported the Assault Weapon Ban does not make you a hunter.

Fair enough.

Trump will get my vote if he’s the last one standing between Her Malevolence and the White House. I just hope — if he is the nominee and eventual winner — he would follow up on the border wall, economic and military policy stances.

Nope. A biggie is HUGE fed and state over regulation. Id LoVe to see the EPA abolished on day 1.

I live near a so called “wetland” with “archaeologically sensitive” grounds. The “wetland” is a man made ditch created by farmers 100+ years ago

Im supposed to let my property flood for the sake of some multitudinous wildlife that “may” become extinct should I put a few payloads of dirt in my backyard?!

Meanwhile running scared that some offshoot of the EPA will come snooping around and fine me 100s of thousands of $$$ for essentially improving my property? My tax assessment is already high enough!

Yesterday on Hannity, Newt described Trump as an Anti Left, Anti PC American Nationalist.

I like it!
