Trump-Mentum Smacks Capitol Hill In The Face
politico.com ^ | February 24

The reality that Donald Trump is on a path to win the GOP presidential nomination is hitting Capitol Hill. Hard.

And it's provoking a range of reactions -- anger, fear, bafflement, resignation and, for the first time Wednesday, support.

GOP leaders are trying to stay out of the presidential race, even as rank-and-file members scurry to figure out what it means. Is the Trump phenomenon real, and can it last? If it does, is it good or bad for their own campaigns? Is the anti-Washington, "Make America Great Again" message aimed at them or President Barack Obama and the Democrats, or maybe both?

Some Republicans are now comparing Trump to Ronald Reagan, the GOP's ultimate iconic figure who expanded the party's appeal far beyond where it is now.

The five stages of grief, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with what we lost.

They are starting to get scared — he is a vengeful fellow who keeps score. They sense that if he is elected, he will be going after them to get even using all the tools available to the US president.

Of course, when Reagan was pursuing the Presidency, the establishment and the media said he was wrong for the job.

Watch the soothsayers and deniers become lemmings once the verdict is in and Trump is nominated. They will be seeking their place at the table. That's all they care about. Government “service” and the Republican party is nothing more then a vehicle to satisfy their own selfish interests.

From post: Is the Trump phenomenon real, and can it last?

The author just dropped in from Mars and hasn't seen Trump's massive rallies and the primary results.

Not really Reagan was elected because he was Reagan

The democrats controlled congress (except for the senate for several years )and did nothing but harass Reagan every chance they got

The real turning point came in 94 and again in 2014

Yeah it makes me laugh listening to Rove and the rest of the GOP punditry. “Trump cannot win his unfavorables are too high”

Really yet Hillary can win with unfavorable only 2 points lower?

---

We forget that Reagan was hated by the old school GOP establishment. What saved Reagan was all the new congressmen and senators his coattails brought in. The new guys were forever beholden to Reagan after. But if it had been left to the old GOPe Reagan woukd have been sidelined once president.

“Is the anti-Washington, “Make America Great Again” message aimed at them or President Barack Obama and the Democrats, or maybe both?”

Both. But the first target is the closest one - the Boehners, Ryans, McConnells, Cornyns, etc. in the GOPe leadership. They have FAILED, miserably, to live up to their promises or to do the jobs they were elected to do - that is why Trump has done so well. THEY created him.

Hillary and the Dems will get theirs after the Convention.

Here’s the latest ESTABLISHMENT reaction!

Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican, sent the letter to fellow Republicans Wednesday evening. He’s asking would-be signers to back his push to rally the establishment around either the Florida or Texas senator in an effort to defeat Donald Trump, the current frontrunner for the GOP nomination.

The letter argues that one candidate should continue on in the presidential race while the other is named a vice presidential candidate.
