A Debate Postscript: How Ignorant Is Trump?
Powerline ^ | 2-26-16 | John Hinderaker

Posted on 02/27/2016 6:07:37 AM PST by afraidfortherepublic

Paul (Mirengoff) has already noted one of the strangest incidents in last night’s debate, when Donald Trump repeatedly talked about judges signing “bills.” Before the debate fades into history, let’s go to the tape. It’s short: (the tape will not play)

Three times, Trump says his sister and Sam Alito signed the same bill. As Paul politely put it, judges don’t sign bills. I would say, how did this knucklehead get through the eighth grade?

We are faced with a likely presidential nominee who has no idea what a bill is, as opposed to a judicial opinion. I never imagined that this could be possible. It is like hiring someone to manage a major league baseball team who is unfamiliar with the terms “hit” and “out.” To the extent that there are know-nothings in the electorate, they obviously have found their candidate.

Hillary Clinton isn’t much of an intellect, but I am afraid she will make Trump look like an idiot. Even in the degraded culture of 21st century America, it is questionable whether someone perceived as an idiot can get more than 46% or 47% of the vote.

It’s amusing the only person who has built that, hired tens of thousands of people, dealt with regulations at the local, state and federal levels, negotiated four business (not personal) bankruptcies and much more is considered to have misplaced his brain. Mean while the career politicians live off the tax payers, get the country into tens of TRILLIONS of dollars of debt and we are told by fellow Freepers to vote for one of the status quo. Really?

There was a criticism of Trump that I thought was unfair, that he doesn’t know his own religion or isn’t really a Christian because he called a Bible verse TWO Corinthians instead of Second Corinthians. I know plenty of people who say it that way. I just saw a DVD of a British Anglican clergyman, Nicky Gumbel, say Two Timothy twice in his lecture so this could be a British preference and the Presbyterian church, Trump’s denomination, could follow that. Or maybe the last time Trump heard those books of the Bible mentioned, the reader read it as Two and One instead of First and Second. My point is, the criticism of Trump has become so petty and biased that I discount it in advance.

Also, in addition to what I said earlier, I think that most people are willing to filter through what he says because of this:

Rightly or wrongly, it is a perception and mindset that prevails over ALL the other candidates in terms of which one will get the votes - and the nomination.

Nobody was yelling at Trump when he made that mistake. Confusing judges making decisions with governors or presidents signing bills is pretty bad. And the insults from some Trump supporters reacting to valid criticisms of him is scary. In some ways he reminds me of Obama. Threatening people who oppose him is democratic thug behavior. I don’t want to have a republican Obama. I want a president who supports the constitutional limits on government.

I think the Apprentice shows answer that question. Trump had has own entertaining and odd criteria, for sure. That being said, he judged people by their performance, not their pedigree.

Exactly.

I used to think Powerline was a reasonable site, but no more.

Trump has had many dealings with the courts, as any person who has done business on a large scale has, and he knows well that the proper term probably was “decision” rather than “bill”.

Hinderaker knows that sitting at your own desk with hours to frame your sentences is not the same thing as having to reply in a split second before the moderator shuts you down for time penalty.

So Hinderaker is untruthful in a clever and subtle way.

Powerline is, or was, made up of three GOPe dopes. I haven’t visited that crap hole in at least 7 years. They banned me once after calling them out in the comments. Pussy attorneys.

‘Trump doesn’t even know what he stands for.’

Yet somehow he knows enough not to put out the treacherous idea that Rubio would be an acceptable president.

Hey, I know! Let’s re-elect the “Constitutional professor” and towering intellect Barack Hussein Obama to a third term! I mean, look what his oratorical skills and his overwhelming intelligence have done for us these last seven an a half years! And then there are the yapping Chihuahuas, Rubio and Cruz, who have never run so much as a 7/11 store! Put ‘em in charge of a dying nation!

We need MORE of the brilliance of Harvard and Yale running this country!

/s(as if....)

has the intelligence and business acumen to be a good POTUS. I just wish he would quit being such a grand stander and saying such insulting things to the others on stage. He belittles himself when he acts so immaturely.,

You do know the adage of how to tell when a politician is lying - when his mouth moves? ... those events have politicians with moving mouths - which means they are all lying.

You judge a man not on his words, but on his actions and his character. Even if he lies about his actions, there is still his character which cannot be hidden, alas nowadays people think character is what an actor portrays ... and being so crippled have only empty words to form their beliefs.

Only fools, hoping for a display of magic, a promise of something for nothing, watch those idiocy generating events.

Did it ever occur to you that the major problem with obummer care is the fact that it is an all encompassing plan?

There is a plan for every minute detail.

And that is it major failing.

Much more to my liking to have many different plans to chose from.

Read obummer care. An established respected hospital can not even install an additional major piece of equipment nor build an addition without government approval.

Medicine is the most complex industry I can think of and the government would “plan” how it is to be run when they can not manage the Social Security money, which is the easiest of all endeavors. Beware of any politician who tells you that he has a detailed plan for you.

Trump is an Ivy-leaguer. I made that mistake myself because he sure doesn’t act like one. He went to business school at Penn, and Penn is part of the Ivies.

I have the personal experience to know that I don’t believe nearly any one of them, now who has been corrupted by that Political Disneyland we call DC. At present, I’m open to trying another way.

I don’t condemn Cruz - I like him, but besides him an Trump, the rest can go straight to hell for all I care.

I’ve already voted for ST in my state, so I’ll see who gets the nomination and then proceed from there.

“Hiring experts” requires knowledge of the field of expertise required.

I, for the sake of argument, am a great Project manager. My stuff gets done and done right. I work on IT. Should I be asked to hire a chemical engineer for a new fuel cell project? Probably not.

Trump could find a better brick layer than I can, and much faster. He could name a great architect in seconds for anything you want to build. He could likely tell you the margin based on very few details. Can he build a new application and design the infrastructure to support it? Can he point out the risks that will kill the profits? Can he hire a good second level developer to augment the team? Probably not.

He would need to figure out who he can trust and lean on their knowledge and experience. Those are the folks who will be running things.
