Cliven Bundy is behind bars, but his cows remain at large.
The longtime nemesis of the Bureau of Land Management faces charges that could keep him imprisoned for the rest of his life. His cattle linger as an ecological scourge to the Mojave Desert northeast of Las Vegas.
The Bundy herd, last estimated at 1,000, has trampled sensitive soils, devoured native saplings and bedded down against Native American artifacts. One of Bundy's bulls attacked a Nevada wildlife official, while others have run roughshod over a community garden and a golf course, BLM said.
BLM and its allies .. want Bundy's cows gone from the public lands surrounding his Bunkerville, Nev., ranch, and particularly Gold Butte, a 350,000-acre mesa of Joshua trees, cacti and creosote bushes below the snow-dusted Virgin Peak.
But removing Bundy's ornery, battle-tested herd -- estimated by one Nevada official to be worth up to $800,000 -- will be expensive, logistically difficult and potentially dangerous.
"It's like hunting cape buffalo," said Ken Mayer, the former director of Nevada's Department of Wildlife. "They're nasty, they're smart, and they won't hesitate to charge."
...
The next roundup is "not going to be easy," said Rob Mrowka, a biologist at the Center for Biological Diversity who has lobbied for decades for BLM to remove Bundy's cows.
...
At Bundy's melon farm along the banks of the Virgin River about 90 miles northeast of Las Vegas, ranching operations are continuing as usual, said a man named "Skipper" who identifies himself as the family's head of security. Skipper said he was briefly detained and questioned by the FBI at the time of Cliven Bundy's arrest Feb. 10 but that he's back at the ranch.

Sell at market.
Pay expenses.
Remainer goes to Bundy.
Or will Bundy get a bill to cover the remaining unpaid roundup expenses
Wow, I didn’t think there could be yet another aspect of this story for me not to care about. They just keep coming.
It is my understanding that Bundy owns 150ish acres. Round them up, deliver them to his property. Problem solved.
“It’s like hunting cape buffalo,” said Ken Mayer, the former director of Nevada’s Department of Wildlife. “They’re nasty, they’re smart, and they won’t hesitate to charge.”
Please. What a drama queen. I’ve never hunted Cape Buffalo but I’ve worked cattle plenty of times.
No doubt the fearless BLM will risk life and limb to save us from this scourge.
Give them to the uranium prospectors?
They’ll just end up going in with machine guns and armored vehicles. That’s the JBT way.
Cliven is one dumb cookie. Had the chance to file lawsuits against the BLM and wouldnt do it. Then the dork goes and sticks his nose where it doesnt belong. Now he will lose all of it.
That is why nobody like the oath keepers didnt jump into this like they did in NV. They found out the guy is an attention seeker. Then, his buddies were foul mouthing Kris Kyle. That did it.
Back stabbing mormons.
Cape Buffalo will charge you, stomp you, return and grind you into hamburger. Takes something on the line of a .375 caliber or bigger to kill one and they can still charge several hundred feet with their heart blown completely to pieces. One of the most dangerous animal on the planet to hunt.
Cows go “moo”
From what I’ve seen of Obama’s minions, they are more likely to steal the cattle than pay for them. Like their ideological brothers in China, they will probably charge Bundy’s family for the costs of rustling Bundy’s cattle and for the bullets used to stop Bundy’s “escape” if the family makes any trouble over the theft.
Terrorist cows must be stopped!
Terrorist cows must be stopped!
Terrorist Cows
Flatulence
Global Warming
All connected.
I read “Death in the Long Grass” by Capstick and firmly believe everything in Africa is designed to kill humans.
I have no knowledge of Cliven or his family. Just wanted to comment that many westerners farmers and ranchers deal with a hand shake or spoken word for a deal. To these people you do not break your word or go against a hand shake on a deal. They do not have a use for lawyers, so they do not think they need a lawyer to reach a deal.
You may think that this is a very simple method of dealing with agreements, but let me advise you that Joseph Jamail won over $10 Billion Dollars for Pennzoil from Texaco Oil over a hand shake deal between Pennzoil and Getty Oil. So in Texas a hand shake deal is a binding contract.
Only after he was told he would have to reduce the size of his herd would he refuse to sign the contracts and say that he didn't recognize fedgov's authority over the land, and subsequently not recognize the US courts' rulings against him.
There appear to many issues with the Bundys, the US and The State of Nevada Governments. I agree that the Bundys should have hired an attorney which may have helped in the all the situations. But just like both the Occupy Movement and Black Lives Matter Movement, Mr. Bundy did it his way. Guess Bindy’s mistake is forgetting to get Harry Reid on his side!
“Organize the roundup.
Sell at market.”
You obviously have not been paying attention to this story for very long. The BLM tried to sell the Bundy heard at livestock auctions. Two problems, the auctions will not accept Bundy-branded animals, and buyers won’t buy them. They support Bundy’s position.
That’s why the BLM executed one of his $100,000 bulls, (while tethered to a pole), on their way out.
Ken Mayer was run off from his position at NDOW by Gov. Sandoval.

Trampled sensitive soils?
What about all hundreds of thousands of illegals crossing the border into national parks leaving trash, dead bodies and doing much worse to the environment than a thousand cows.
Besides that, they are bringing in drugs and crime.
You have an excellent point. Maybe a new president will push the BLM to exterminate the filthy illegals trampling wildlands. A better use of our taxes.
