Trump The Hypocrite: Investing Overseas Fine For Him (Outsourcing)
Forbes Magazine ^ | Stuart Anderson

Posted on 03/10/2016 11:37:37 AM PST by AmericanInTokyo

Donald Trump’s appeal is said to be his straight talk. But when it comes to international trade, he sounds like a hypocrite, the classic “Do what I say, not what I do” politician.

While bashing companies for investing in foreign countries, Donald Trump’s own company has shown no inclination to invest and build only in America. In fact, a significant percentage of his company’s hotels and major real estate properties are located abroad. “Mr. Trump is either inexcusably hypocritical or inexcusably ignorant of economics,” according to Donald J. Boudreaux, a professor of economics at George Mason University. “There is zero economic difference between, say, a U.S. car company’s investments abroad in factories and Mr. Trump’s own investments abroad in hotels: both are meant to improve the bottom line of companies headquartered in the U.S. by taking advantage of profitable economic opportunities outside of the U.S.”

Whether Trump is elected or not, you need to understand that the Republic is dead and it succumbed at the hands of George W Bush when he “won” Gonzales v Raich.

"Don't Care"

"Doesn't Matter"

and in this case:

"Smart Business"

It's always one of those three.

You can lead the Frumpters to the facts but you can't make 'em care.

It's worth noting that most instances of "outsourcing jobs" these days don't actually involve any jobs moving outside the country.

I remember when Apple was run through the wringer over this when they began producing iPhones in Asia.

"Apple is outsourcing all those jobs to Asia!" was the clamor in the media, the Democratic/protectionist drivel, etc.

Well, no ... the iPhone didn't even exist until Apple started producing them in Asia -- so they didn't have any American jobs to outsource in that case.

Money has no allegiance. But those with money may have some wildly varying ideas about their allegiances. When pursuing return on investment, some rather immoral or even illegal situations may look pretty attractive.

And when moral codes and legal codes are not enforced, or enforced only sporadically, the bet is, maybe you can get away with it.

Money is not the root of all evil, but the LOVE of money is.

That’s a good idea, but they should be spread out across the entire country instead of concentrated in one half of the country ... so the U.S. doesn’t tip over from the weight of all those passenger jets.

How does building hotels and golf courses overseas compare to outsourcing manufacturing products? Can he ship the hotel rooms or golf greens back into the U.S. cheaper than they can be made here?

Sheesh!!!

Slap a 35% tax on all of his goods manufactured in his factories that he moved overseas and ships back to America! That’ll teach him.

When has he said we shouldn’t have international trade?

He said the players need to play by the same rules... and that those rules need to be fair.

This is nothing more than sniping. Taking sound bites and extrapolating instead of taking the overall statements.

Trump is not the one who wrote the laws his businesses operate under. Those were written by legislators like Cruz, Rubio and Kasich. Trump has never been in a position to legislate anything. Hate the game, not the player.

He's building a new hotel in Paris... it's actually located in Detroit, so guests will have a brief shuttle ride from the check-in desk in Paris to get to their rooms.

He is a businessman. He has made the point for years about US policy hurting business at home. He wants to change the policies so businesses can come home.
