Wounded Warrior Project execs fired

In an update to a CBS News investigation of the country's largest veterans charity, Wounded Warrior Project, the board has fired the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer.

The CBS News investigation raised questions about how the charity spends the millions of dollars it receives in donations each year.

Wounded Warrior Project's CEO, Steven Nardizzi, and COO, Al Giordano, were fired after criticisms from more than 40 employees about how it spends its more than $800 million raised in donations in the past four years.

The allegations include lavish spending by the charity at staff retreats, and other costs, at the expense of programs for veterans.

The charity's board of directors made the decision after meeting this afternoon in New York, Chip Reid reports. Sources tell CBS News the board has received preliminary results of a financial and policy audit, but there are indications that investigation will continue.

There are also discussions underway about retired senior military officials who are being considered to take over the helm of the organization, which has raised more than a billion dollars since its inception in 2003.

Just an observation. The more polished and heart string pulling the ads for a charity are, the more likely that there is at least a degree of self serving in the administration of the charity.

It wouldn’t appear that either are veterans and I only found one mention of Nardizzi’s age - 35 or so..I was curious as he didn’t look old enough to have been in the military. Law school grad - big surprise - so are the Clintons and the obozos.... Is that where they learn their craft (graft)?

“”Steve radiates enthusiasm about his work with veterans. From the beginning, it’s been my great privilege to serve the men and women who serve the cause of freedom, he says. But working with Wounded Warrior Project is truly special. Every WWP program zeroes right in on the needs of the most seriously wounded service members as they come home from the battlefield. WWP programs have life-changing potential, and my work keeps those programs in operation. To be part of this mission is not only an honor, it’s genuinely exciting. A Richardson Scholar, Steve graduated from the Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1997 and the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in 1999. He attended New York University, where he was a Trustee Scholar, and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1993. Steve is originally from New York, and currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with his lovely wife, Nikki.

I know all Italian Americans aren’t in the Mafia, but I do wonder if there was some skimming going on.

Hopefully, Trace was an unwilling/unwitting participant and donated his time without compensation. A lot of celebrities get hooked real easy these days.

Homes for the Troops is highly rated as well.

I donated to WW for several years before I found out that
a lot, if not most of the money wasn’t going to the Vets.

Also, there is a lot of nepotism and lots of no-show jobs at non profits.

For years these bastards have been raking in bucks for their personal benefit on the backs of veterans. GET A ROPE!

In sharp contrast, there are many GOOD veterans organizations, and for wounded veterans, the best and best organized is the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) (click here).

In existence since the 1920s after WWI, the DAV uses less than 5% for administration, the rest goes to programs of and for service-related disabilities of all kinds.

Don't let newly introduced projects displace your support of DAV, whos motto is:

Serving Veterans Since 1920

We are dedicated to a single purpose:
Empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity.

We donate to Homes For Our Troops. 90% of donations go to building houses for disabled Vets.

Yes, there are good non-profits....prospective donors need to do their research though.

But while there are some good ones, I still believe most are set up for the purpose of shielding income and living large tax free. Why do you think Zuckerberg put most of his BILLION$ into a “non-profit”?
