Cruz: Trump Is Manipulating 'Low-Information' Voters

Ted Cruz accused Republican front-runner Donald Trump of taking advantage of 'angry, low-information voters.'

“Listen, Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry and they see him as an angry voice,” Cruz told “The Brody File” in an interview conducted Wednesday and published Thursday.

Cruz, who has racked up wins in Idaho, Maine and Kansas in the past week, said his campaign performs better among informed, engaged voters.

“When they inform themselves, they realize his record,” Cruz said. “He’s what they’re angry at. He is the corruption, and if you want someone to stand up to Washington, the only one who has been doing so in this race is me.”

The Texas senator acknowledged Trump has done well in Southeastern states — he’s won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. But Cruz said his campaign has done well in that pocket of the country, too, often coming in second to the New York billionaire but still picking up delegates.

“Now Donald has a harder problem in the West,” Cruz said. “It’s interesting. I mean, his location, he does well in the Southeast. He does well with a certain demographic of voter. Donald gave a press conference where he said, to quote him, ‘I love the poorly educated.’” Cruz suggested Trump is “taking advantage of his voters because” they’re angry. “I understand what they’re angry about, but, Donald, if you’re angry at the corruption of Washington, you don’t solve it by supporting someone who has been enmeshed in the Washington corruption for 40 years,” he said.

It's true.

Doesn't mean you should be able to say so. In fact, it may be political correctness to be offended by such candor. I see many parallels between Obama and Trump, especially in infatuation and "empty canvass" phases of the electorate. Give it time.as an educated Trump supporter, I'd be angry and probably take it that way.

So, in your opinion Phyllis Schlafly is a low information voter who is not engaged. You couldn’t be further from the truth if you tried, so like Ted you just lied.

I’m low info?
Just 3 points that Cruz supporters don’t know.

1. Obamacare( Cruz’s man Roberts on the Court made Obamacare possible) .

2. Iran is developing nukes (Cruz voted for the corker bill which made that a go).
3.TPP is passing or about to be passed (Cruz wrote an article promoting TPA which can be Googled to fact check). TPP will destroy all factories in the USA and flood the USA with immigrants. China and immigrants a one two punch to destroy America.

Trump will stop TPP, China, illegals , Iran and all the rest of the GOpe schemes

Cruz should be ashamed of himself. He is merely an opportunist and he thought that playing a conservative will get him the nomination and now he is a sore loser, thinking that he still has a chance if there is a brokered convention, so, he is working hard to influence the voters to deny Trump sufficient number of delegates going into the convention.

The GOPe is playing Cruz and will discard him.

"I love the poorly educated."

I've watched many rallies and been to 1. Trump loves every one. You'll hear "i love mexicans", "i love muslims", "i love --YOU--". You can talk all you want about how he's not sincere. But he's the only one even pretending to love people. That's pretty powerful and not an effective attack unless you can show that you love us more.

I have postgrad education. Have owned a few businesses. And have read everything I can about ALL republican candidates. I do not think I'm poorly educated or low-information. I do think many "educated" people are dump and many "poorly educated" people are very smart. And many "poorly educated" have the highest information - without the education on the resume the information is more necessary to succeed.

Don’t be mad, bro. Ted Bush will still be a Senator until 2018.

This guy is done. If Texans re-elect him to the Senate it will just be proving his point.

Your reaction of simply calling Cruz a “d-bag” kind of proves his point.

What makes Ted say or think Trump is “manipulating low information voters”??

That is so stupid. Just today Trump got the endorsement of Ben Carson and Phyllis Schlafly - are they “low information voters”? Cruz is doing this at a time when Trump is saying the party needs to unite to get the votes necessary to beat Hillary. If Ted becomes the nominee he will need the votes of what he calls “low information voters” so why insult them??

Cruz is committing political suicide with asinine comments like this.

Cruz’s biggest problem is the high information voters who know his history regarding TPA and H1b.

The only ‘low information’ voters I see here are the Cruz supporters and some of those that endorse him=Glenn Beck for one...

So before saying anything about the America Voters Cruz, I would suggest you might need us someday down the road, not in this election, but there might be the next and we are kinda not likely to forget that you called us ‘low information anything’!!! So consider our votes GONE from you!!!

The political suicide is being committed by Schlafly and Carson, who, like Palin before them, have dirtied themselves by associating themselves with this fraud.

Cruz trying to use reverse psychology. He want Trump voters to question their support of Trump.

“But when Trump calls his own voters poorly educated.”

Post a quote of Trump saying that - a full in context quote.

It is truly sad to see how far down Free Republic has fallen. In days of yore, threads such as this would have been yanked and the poster zotted.

Mister, I am a very intelligent person and I support Trump. I even know my IQ which is way above average but that does not matter. I am an avid reader and have about 260 books on my iPad and that is more important. I read several newspapers a day, I go to many sites just to see what is being talked about. I am amazed at the conservative news I get on Facebook and here. One thing I have not done for decades is watch network news. I got fed up with that as a college student in the 1960’s. I thought it was disgusting how the Vietnam vets were treated. I am very capable of researching people and making up my own mind. I do not care about endorsements. They have a right to their opinion even if it does not agree with mine. : ) That's life. I find it very interesting at what lengths Cruzers will go to to change minds but it does not work. They need to use that time to fight the dems.
