North Carolina officials decide against charging Trump in punching incident

Authorities in North Carolina say there isn't enough evidence to press charges against Donald Trump for his behavior in connection with a violent altercation at one of his rallies last week.

In a statement issued Monday night, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said legal counsel advised and Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler agreed that the evidence doesn't meet the requisites of North Carolina law to support a conviction for inciting a riot.

The sheriff's office said while other aspects of its investigation are continuing, the investigation related to Trump and his campaign is over and no charges are anticipated.

An initial statement on Monday said investigators were continuing to look at the rally last Wednesday in Fayetteville, during which a man was hit in the face while being escorted out.

I guess they are afraid of being twittered to death. All the donald can do is send out an angry tweet and then his rapid dogs start chomping at the bit.

Not surprising. If they went after Trump, that would open up eighty gazillion liberals to prosecution for equally — or much more — inflammatory statements at rallies.

Charges? What charges? We dont want trouble with Mr. Trump.

Be cause we all know the truth, just like Trump's campaign said,

"the arena was rented for a private event,
paid for by the campaign and these people attended with the intent to cause trouble.
They were only there to agitate and anger the crowd.
It is the protesters and agitators who are in violation,
not Mr. Trump or the campaign."

They decided that mass resignation and retaliation from their own police officers would not be worth weathering. The police love Trump.

The police should be charging the rioters with “disorderly conduct,” at least.

Self defense of our rights against criminals who violated the law by protesting at a Secret Service protected event (which is not protected speech) is allowed. No matter what so called ‘constitutional scholar’ Ted Cruz says.

Trump didn’t punch anyone.

Far less turmoil than at an NFL game

Cumberland county couldn’t raise their property taxes enough to cover the attorney bills in a battle with Trump. Trump’s attorneys would take over the entire top floor of the local Marriott for the duration.

They lay hands on Trump, we come with rifles. No warnings, no social media chest thumping, no organization. Uncountable individual self declared Patriot Sleeper Cells. No more serious progressive stunts without paying the price. Times have changed.

Anyone lays hands on our new Lion, they best be ready.

Agreed. I personally believe that you should be able to charge people who deliberately disrupt others peacefully assembling on private property with some variation of trespassing or of free speech violations, but I'm not sure either is legally possible. And I'm assuming this was a rally on rented space; gatherings in a public park and the like would not have the same rights and protections, IMHO.

But the media and Powers That Be in numerous cities have been excusing outright riots as "peaceful protests" for at least a couple of years now, so I'm not counting on the protesters getting hit with any consequences.
