Task Force Report: North America Time for a New Focus
CFR Blog ^ | October, 2014 | General David Petraeus, et al

A new CFR-sponsored Independent Task Force report, North America: Time for a New Focus, asserts that elevating and prioritizing the U.S.-Canada-Mexico relationship offers the best opportunity for strengthening the United States and its place in the world.

"It is time to put North America at the forefront of U.S. policy," the report says. "The development and implementation of a strategy for U.S. economic, energy, security, environmental, and societal cooperation with its two neighbors can strengthen the United States at home and enhance its influence abroad."

Chaired by David H. Petraeus, retired U.S. Army general and chairman of the KKR Global Institute, and Robert B. Zoellick, former president of the World Bank Group and chairman of Goldman Sachs's International Advisors, the Task Force is composed of a diverse and distinguished group of experts that includes former government officials, scholars, and others. The project is directed by CFR Senior Fellow for Latin America Studies Shannon K. O'Neil.

The Task Force proposes a comprehensive set of recommendations for deepening North American integration, concentrating on four pivotal areas—energy, economic competitiveness, security, and community. These include:

Capitalizing on North America's promising energy outlook. The North American countries need a regional energy strategy to strengthen the continent's energy infrastructure, expand energy exports, support Mexico's historic reforms, improve safety, and encourage harmonized policies to promote energy conservation and reduce carbon emissions.

"For economic, environmental, and diplomatic reasons, the Task Force recommends that the U.S. government encourage increased energy connections with Canada and Mexico. The U.S. government should approve additional pipeline capacity, including the Keystone XL pipeline," the report says. "The Task Force also proposes that the United States end restrictions on energy exports, including oil and LNG (liquefied natural gas)."

I responded to a comment by a poster yesterday about the 'Cheap Labor Express' and referred to an appearance by General Petreaus on a Fox Business Channel show on Saturday morning. He was calling for North American Integration.

Freeper Theoria commented on my post and included a link to this article. Thanks Theoria!

I think this is the real basis for a lot of the opposition to Trump. It's not cheap labor...it's that with his immigration plans he's throwing a monkey wrench into the entire plot to steal our sovereignty and create a North American EU style government.

George W Bush was a huge supporter of this plan and I believe that Jeb was the chosen successor to carry it forward. With the collapse of Jeb's campaign we've seen many of his principal advisors join Ted Cruz's campaign. Not the least of whom is his brother Neil Bush.

I'm not claiming that Cruz is on board with this but sure as rain many of his new team are.

Thanks for sending me the link to this article. I remember when this was first discussed during 43’s administration and the uproar it caused here. W’s people stopped talking about it and the issue faded into the background but they’re still busy.

The best way to strengthen the US, is to actually strengthen the US. Piss on the CFR.

Cruz is the man to implement this and that’s why they don’t care that he is Canadian. Heidi is part of the same CFR crowd as Petraeus. These people think the EU, the North American Union, and the TPP create complementary zones. Meanwhile, the EU is crashing and burning, with the Brits just barely keeping it at bay and Brexit growing in popularity —especially with this latest Brussels thing. Sorry, CFR eggheads, the plan are not going as planned!!!!!

Couldn’t get past “Zoellick, former president of the World Bank Group and chairman of Goldman Sachs’s International Advisors”. Must be developing a ‘dog whistle’ toward those who do not have my best interest at heart.

An all star cast of diverse and distinguished globalists. To be truly convincing they should hold their meetings in Brussels.

The open borders crowd becoming the no borders crowd. Bad timing.

Au contraire, it’s great timing. We need to skin the CFR of all influence on this country, and their saying this right now gives us a great opportunity. They should be laughed off the public stage with ridicule and sarcasm.

And if they are half as smart as they think they are, they will leave before they are ridden out on a rail.
