But I would also bet it is true that Cruz had these affairs. I know it is hard to take for all those who invested so much in Cruz in part due to his religious stances. And it is that which is the cruelest cut of all.

You’re assuming this started with the Trump camp. NE is known for paying top dollar for tips so who knows who dropped the dime? Quite possible that one or two of the people alleged to be involved decided to cash in what they saw as a lottery ticket.
NE will protect their source so we’re not likely to find out for sure.

Trump is an honorable man. People who know him talk well of him. Hes a straight-shooter which is why he keeps winning.
Your argument is Trump has more control over the National Enquirer then Cruz has over his PAC with much less evidence then is against Cruz.

Well he could have pulled the Carson defense:
1) “I didn’t know”
2) “I knew but was just repeating what others said”

Exactly, but unless they can prove malice (according to those defamation laws Trump wants to change), i.e. that the reports are false and the paper knew they were false, then they are free and clear. And it’s VERY tough to prove what someone knew ahead of time, unless they are very stupid, and since the NE is in this business, I suspect they are very smart.

That said, how much would the story hurt him? Sanders has an illegitimate child. Then there are all those Bill Clinton scandals (rape charge and friendship with a convicted pedophile) with Hillary involved in cover-up.
