When a student-led organization at Dartmouth College petitioned the Library of Congress in 2014 to drop the term illegal aliens and instead use undocumented, the response was no.
The reasoning, members of the group recall, was that illegal alien is an official U.S. government term for people who are in the country without proper documents.
But the Dartmouth Coalition for Immigration Reform, Equality and DREAMers, or CoFIRED, motivated others including librarian associations across the nation to press the Library of Congress to stop using the term, which they argued dehumanizes undocumented immigrants.
The Library of Congress listened, and has decided to no longer use the heading "illegal aliens" in bibliographic records.
When we got the news we were very happy and excited, said Oscar R. Cornejo Casares, a junior majoring in sociology, in an interview with Fox News Latino.
Cornejo said that the Library of Congress decision was the result of the collaborative effort of Dartmouth as well as librarian organizations and others.
We were surprised to see this was happening, he said of all the support nationwide for the effort that CoFIRED launched. Illegal aliens is a dehumanizing, racially charged term. Its about changing how we talk about things. The word alien makes undocumented people seem far removed

The Ministry of Truth is smiling.
“1984” was supposed to be a cautionary tale, not an instruction manual.
So we just start using the term, “Criminal Alien”.
Completing our journey to words having no meaning.........
Illegal aliens is a dehumanizing, racially charged term. Its about changing how we talk about things

PING
ACCORDING TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO
IN A SWORN AFFIDAVIT TO A US COURT, MEXICO SWORE
THAT MEXICANS ON US SOIL ARE MEXICAN CITIZENS.
A sworn affidavit by Mexico/s Consul General to a Texas court asserts that Mexico/s official govt policy is to encourage its poor people to migrate here illegally in order to access our generous welfare system...... declaring that Mexico is responsible to protect its nationals wherever they may be residing.
A footnote states that Mexican nationality is granted to children born abroad of a Mexican born parent. IOW, anchor babies born in the US retain parents Mexican nationality.
The Mexican consul/s sworn testimony asserts that: My responsibilities in this position include protecting the rights and promoting the interests of my fellow Mexican nationals, and, that the main responsibility of consulates is to provide services, assistance, and protection to Mexican nationals abroad.
NOTE This also wipes out anchor babies......and DHS Secy, Jeh Johnson and Obama who say illegals have essentially "become American" b/c they go to school, have licenses to drive, and can even practice law in California.
I remember reading that Seattle prohibited the words “brown bag” (apparently a term used to describe black people, which I never knew) and “citizen” because it hurts the feelings of non citizens.
All those years my Mom sent me to school with a brown bag lunch. So racist.
Bump
Majoring in sociology at Dartmouth? Of course, after 100K in loans, he will wonder why he can’t make more then 7.50 an hour at Wendy’s and of course blame society for his problems.
1984 was supposed to be a cautionary tale, not an instruction manual.
Bears repeating.
Ivy League librarians! I’ve been at Butler Library all week researching the papers of a Chinese-American physicist who was instrumental in the Manhattan project. She finally took out U.S. Citizenship in the early 60s after several of her colleagues were called before the HUAC. She was an alien when she directed efforts at Oak Ridge Labs to separate U-238. Without her, there was no bomb.
Yes. In the country illegally.
Any "documents" would merely prove this. That's why they don't have any.
And, of course, illegal means criminal--as in "a crime has been committed." So these people are criminals.
It's easy to understand. So is the motivation of those who want to change the wording.
Liberals have a penchant for abusing the language to disguise their true intent.
They contort themselves and word meanings to call things what they are not, or avoid calling things what they are.
The “Affordable Care Act” is unaffordable.
Abortion isn’t Abortion, it’s a “Woman’s Health Issue”.
The “Fairness Doctrine” wasn’t intended to be fair, it was intended to stifle free speech.
Obama stated that “ISIL is not Islamic” (ISIL = Islamic State Of Iraq and the Levant)
Janet Napolitano told us that terrorism isn’t terrorism - it’s “Man Caused Disasters”.
Obama refuses to call terrorist acts by muslims “muslim terrorism”.
Negroes aren’t negroes or blacks - they are “African American”. Even if they couldn’t find the continent of Africa on a map.
The liberal Chris Cuomo of CNN even called black citizens of France “African Americans”.
I guess to him they are French “African-Americans”.
So would blacks in Africa really be African “African Americans”?
And of course, Illegal Aliens aren’t to be called Illegal aliens anymore.
Although that is exactly what they are.
Just to be clear, Dr. Wu was completely non-political, except within the physics community, where she was a master of opinion-making. To read her correspondence with Pauli, Segre, Weiskopf and the rest is amazing.
The bureaucrats who made this decision should be fired.
Some day this crap will end.
I am reminded of the Shark Summer of 2001. That did not end well.
Probably not. The Ivies fight over hispanic students with good SAT scores.
I would settle for the term “foreign invaders”.
