For crying out loud. I worked in proposal/design phases of one at least 15 years ago. the big, new and improved detector sat off to the side of the baggage area in Philly Intl. for quite some time.

Belay that 15 year statement...that occurred well before 9/11, circa ‘96. I must be getting older faster than I realize... ugh.

IIRC, Little Tommy Daschle, then-SML, inserted a requirement that ~one third of the next gen detectors had to come from one of his/his wife's contributors.

That company's products didn't work, but the taxpayers were stuck with the crap equipment.

Not to mention putting people at risk at the airports.
