Syrian rebels operating in the country’s northern region shot down a government warplane Tuesday, suggesting that they have been supplied with anti-aircraft weapons.
Government and rebel sources confirmed the strike, and social media accounts associated with the hard-line Islamist group Ahrar al Sham linked to a video depicting a flaming aircraft hurtling toward the orchards of Al Eis village and jubilant onlookers cheering and taking pictures of the plane’s wreckage.

The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that “a warplane was struck by a surface-to-air missile launched by the terrorist organizations while it was on a reconnaissance mission.”

“rebels are not the enemy” of whom? The “rebels” is Syria consist of mostly ISIS and allied groups - those that have not pledged to ISIS will or could at the drop of a hat. There are no good guys - that is Arabs who are not muslims who do not wish to live under Sharia - maybe the Kurds here.
Muslim countries can only be ruled by a strongman, a dictator, or military. There are no alternatives in the ME where freedom and democracy as pertains to states and individuals is religious and legal anathema.
What prevents MANPADS from Syria from being smuggled into the US from across the Mexican border?
After that happens, what prevents someone from driving to an airport, parking on the road, and firing a MANPAD at an passenger jet taking off?
The 50 foot high Trump wall and the fully staffed and equipped Border Patrol with US Military resources.
