On his campaign swing through New York City last week, GOP presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) faced hostility from black and Hispanic voters to whom he reached out.
In the Bronx, protesters loudly reminded Cruz that he was in an immigrant community. Police removed these outspoken demonstrators. One Bronx school the Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy actually cancelled his planned visit after students wrote a letter threatening a walkout if Cruz showed up.
But in Brooklyn, Cruz seemed to impress a group of black business and community leaders last Thursday night.
Cruz entered the Brooklyn Marriotts conference room and shook hands with every person in the front row before sitting down before the audience at a small table beside John Burnett, the events organizer.

He definitely gave me some pause for thought, said Mayfield. He did open his eyes enough to consider supporting him if he is the nominee.
That will help when Cruz wins New York and loses Michigan.
This is pandering. Treat blacks as Americans instead of victimized snowflakes who need their hands held. I’m sick of politicians going after this group, that group, just to win votes. Diversity is NOT our strength.
Cruz is part of the establishment that destroyed jobs in the black communities. Hope the blacks realize just who their enemy is.
Trump for President.
Delusional or cynical? In the sleazy world Goldman’s candidate lives in when the Black community rejects him Cruz will turn to his supporters and say, “See NY values” and score points.
Anyway Cruz is in the final days of his actual campaign as he will be mathematically eliminated by Trump next Tuesday.
