“Also access to sterile areas, ie where the planes are, must go through a TSA check point.”
This is not correct. I worked for Airport Operations at a medium sized commercial airport in the mid-west. I could, and did, enter the sterile areas from the ramp using the fire exits many times. My airport badge would open these doors from both inside or outside without activating an alarm. All of the airport employees that were authorized entry into the sterile area, electricians, police, fire, plumbers, etc., could do this. There is no TSA checkpoint controlling the aircraft parking area.
Naturally, once you've passed these checkpoints and you are properly badged you can access ramp areas and other sensitive locations.
No security system can be 100% fail proof short of shutting down airports all together, but the implication that the people that run the airports in this country are negligent or don't take their responsibilities seriously is just plain slander.
>>So how many incidents have occurred inside the security perimeter at US Airports since 9/11?
You mean beside the shoe bomber and the like (already on the plane = INSIDE the security perimeter)?
Foiled only by passengers themselves...
But like I said, it's not a perfect system but if you have a more perfect solution I invite you to speak up.
