Before Indiana, Ted Cruz Struggles as Donald Trump Revels in Lead
New York Times ^ | May 1, 2016 | MATT FLEGENHEIMER and THOMAS KAPLAN

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll released on Sunday showed Donald J. Trump with a lead of 15 points among likely Republican primary voters, 49 percent to 34 percent.

Fifty-eight percent of voters said they disapproved of the agreement struck by Mr. Cruz and Gov. John Kasich, which called for Mr. Kasich to abandon campaigning in Indiana in exchange for Mr. Cruz’s withdrawal from Oregon and New Mexico. Thirty-four percent approved.

Mr. Cruz’s own polling has likewise shown him trailing Mr. Trump, compelling the campaign to look beyond the state, if at least for a moment.

And on Saturday, Mr. Cruz surrendered a full day of Indiana politicking to speak at California’s state Republican convention, with an eye toward its election on June 7.

“California,” he said there, a bit hopefully, “is going to decide this Republican primary.”

I certainly hope Trump will win in both states, get his 1237 needed delegates and GOPe will wake up and start supporting him, instead of attacking him and doing Hillary's work.

Cruz abandoned Indiana. Look at the internals of this poll for a clue as to why.

So Cruz bails on a full day in IN to go to CA?? That sure sounds like he’s admitting defeat in IN. Great choice Carly!

So Cruz’s campaign at this point is all about denying Trump the nomination. He is as delusional as Kasich if he thinks the guy who came in a distant second is going to wrest the nomination away from the frontrunner.

Either that, or he just wants to see the GOP burn.

Cruz campaign in overdrive in desperate bid to wrestle Indiana from Trump

Cruz is done. His only hope for a future in politics is if he concedes now, instruct his delegates to support Trump at the convention.

Trump annihilated Cruz in that historic 5 state rout , the sweep of the 5 north eastern states.

Now Trump will do the same to Cruz in Indiana!

Go Trump! Bring back the factories back to the USA from China and stop rebuilding China!

Thanks for the link. I was looking for that poll. The internals are interesting.

Cruz needs to abandon the race for the good of the country.

Cruz is delusional.

He will get some delegates out of CA but they won’t make a difference.

I can’t respect a guy who refuses to acknowledge defeat.

Apparently Teddy picked up his whole campaign staff and fled the state for CA. Unreal! Just get out!

Cruz’s strategy is bizarre... a contested convention in a convention controlled by a Trump majority?

Good luck with it.

The media is eager to get at Trump alone. They’re also facing reality on Indiana. It’s truly over.

How is that different from Trump going to the Republican convention? You could not accuse him of abandoning Indiana. I’m for Trump!

But, but, but Carley will help him a lot in California, where she exported tens of thousands of jobs to China.

Nope. Cruz’s entire campaign at this point is about denying Trump the White House in November. He has no hope of winning the nom and knows it. Now he is salting the earth.

Cruz has given up Indiana. Another of his “must win”, “firewall” states.
