WASHINGTON (AP) -- Polling? Who needs to do that? Fundraising? Can't be bothered. Parse your words? Fuhgetabout it.
Donald Trump took the rules of modern politics, trashed them and became the last man standing for the Republican nomination anyway.
12 ways Trump did it his way:
SAY ANYTHING
It's what Trump's supporters love about him: He blurts out whatever pops into his head. He rejects "political correctness." He insults rivals and critics. He has fun. After one particularly salty salvo, Trump explained, "That's what I mean about being politically correct, every once in a while you can have a little fun, don't you think?" Plenty of candidates may think it, but Trump said it: "I'd like to punch him in the face," he said of one protester. To listen to a Trump speech from start to finish is to enter an alternate grammatical universe. Sentences veer off in unexpected directions as Trump has a new thought. When he interjects his trademark "by the way," there's no telling where he's headed next.
CHEAPSKATE
The billionaire is proud to campaign on the cheap, milking free media in a way that other candidates could only envy. He functioned through most of the primaries with a bare-bones staff. He has no national finance chairman. He never set up a traditional fundraising operation. Sure, he has "donate" buttons on his website, and raises millions hawking hats and other gear. But forget the chicken dinner circuit. Or charging donors $1,000 for a grip-and-grin photo. Or asking supporters to "bundle" contributions from friends and neighbors. Early on, Trump tweeted: "So, I have spent almost nothing on my run for president and am in 1st place. Jeb Bush has spent $59 million & done. Run country my way!"

He only wants you to think that.
In a way, the Trump campaign reminds me of the early Rush years, when his show was fresh, politically incorrect and funny and filled with satire.
“He blurts out whatever pops into his head”
These morons project their idiocy onto Trump still. Tis’ funny to me. LMAO funny.
Vote Trump 2016
Sounds like “the girls” in the family may have been making suggestions. Daughters and wife can always do a job on dad. “Dads are easy!!” Fond memories!!
He’s making the rules. Get on board or get left behind. Trump train’s a rollin.
These so-called rules were what got our country into the mess it’s in now. And the self-serving individuals who made these rules have become ultra wealthy and untouchable.
“He blurts out whatever pops into his head ... He only wants you to think that. “
That is correct. Almost every word out of Trump’s mouth is calculated. Either as a way to “brand” and opponent or to set himself up in a win-win situation while setting his opponent up in a lose-lose situation.
“Dilbert” creator Scott Adams explains the calculated brilliance of Trump’s strategies, which have boxed everyone in in such a way that Trump comes out a winner and his opponents come out losers no matter what direction his opponents take:

The “rules” of modern politics were made up by people who hate the country....glad to see someone PROVE how out of touch the elites are with the real world.
And I should add that most of the media still doesn’t understand what Trump is up to, which is why they keep getting everything wrong about him.
Most of his primary opponents never got it either, which is why they looked so ineffectual and ridiculous when they tried to emulate what they thought he was doing, namely, randomly casting out insults.
What I really wonder about is whether Hillary’s camp gets it or not. For sure, their strategy of trying to label Trump as “dangerous”, etc. is tepid and won’t work. Their internal polls will tell them that in a couple of weeks, and they’ll shift again to some other attack mode, which will probably not work either, and so it will go for the conventional campaign of the conventional candidate during the year in which nearly everyone loathes the insiders and pines for the outsider.
Also when he was beating even Cruz in debates when Cruz was said to be a genius and a master debater was just remarkable to me. Mind you Trump is basically 70.
It was then it really hit me we have a toe to toe fighter, a legitimate genius, a workaholic and a straight talking man with an east coast attitude.
Right man for the right time.
But Trump has to really watch out regarding the immigration deal. Those on the losing end that see their “good thing” ending are unhinged and among them are some looking for just one opportunity to kill him.
Trump said many could possibly come back legally. Most realize they’ve been here not paying taxes collecting on our dole. That would not be who gets let back in. Those that got a number to pay taxes and have been more honest will be let back in.
That is a deal breaker for many that figure once Trump is elected they are gone.
Donald’s whole theme is not to be a country where we are stooges or taken advantage of monetarily. To be a smart country in all areas.
That is not popular with those taking advantage of us.
“How Trump Broke the Rules of Modern Politics, and Won Anyway”
headline shows the don’t get it.
Headline (and article) should be:
“How Trump won By Breaking the Rules of Modern Politics”
Tired of reading articles by people who were wrong about everything explaining away their stupidity. Just go away, dunderheads.
“Also when he was beating even Cruz in debates when Cruz was said to be a genius and a master debater was just remarkable to me.”
Indeed. And that’s when my household started to seriously question whether all the things we were lead to believe about Cruz were true or whether Cruz was simply a carefully constructed phony designed to appeal to disgruntled conservatives.
Despite all their horribleness, those debates did indeed expose the weaknesses of the various candidates for the whole world to see.
+1
How many could make all those speeches without a teleprompter? Can you imagine Bath House Barry without his teleprompter?
Donald is charismatic, likable and funny.
I adore him, and I believe he WILL make America great- and respected again.
