[Puerto Rico] "Humanitarian crisis" is a White House strategy
El Vocero (Google translation) ^ | 05/13/2016 | Laura M. Quintero

Puerto Rico Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), Alberto Bacó Bagué, distanced himself from Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla's strategy to project to the island as facing a humanitarian crisis.

The head of the DDEC maintains that the humanitarian crisis in the island is a strategy of the Secretary of United States Department of the Treasury, Jacob Lew.

He stressed that Puerto Rico is being affected by a conflict between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

"This is a strategy by Mr. Treasury Secretary, he is well respected, but it is a strategy in his mind and I worry that before the world it will create a 'self-fulfilling prophecy', as they say in the States . This gentleman came here with his agenda, it is not that we brought him here. He asked to see a place that could illustrate that we have a problem, [that's why he was taken to run down areas].

"That's a strategy also fighting between Republicans and Democrats in the United States and I do not want that Puerto Rico was caught by a fight between Republicans and Democrats," he said.

Bagué Bacus said investors have communicated their intention to stop projects in Puerto Rico because partners perceive that a humanitarian crisis really exists.

"The governor is aware. The governor has to work with all strategies worldwide. He has to have economic development strategies and needs to have a strategy with the US President, this gentleman from Treasury represents US president and has his strategy. But I will have a duty to show the other side of the coin, that in Puerto Rico there is economic development in Puerto Rico there are positive things happening, "he said.

When Bacó Bagué was asked if in an interview with CNN the Governor had used the term humanitarian crisis to talk about the spread of zika in Puerto Rico, he said the official who had said that "there are sectors who believe which can reach a humanitarian crisis. "

"Perhaps (the governor) he did not have all the time to explain what we are doing (in the interview with CNN)," he said.

DDEC Secretary said that Puerto Rico is "one of the safest places in terms Zika".

Bacó Bagué also said that in Puerto Rico there is a crisis "because we have 15 years of deterioration, but be careful it becomes something that is getting out of hand."

"It is very difficult to counteract the strategy of the Treasury Secretary and the President of the United States. They have that strategy. I will believe there is a duty to communicate the other side of the coin, "he said.

The secretary said that "every official who has a ministerial duty to the people affects us to the point of view of the area that represents and not be afraid give give" when asked if he was contradicting the strategy of chief executive.

Indeed, on Monday, the President of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, Jaime Perelló said the visit by Lew to the island came to keep the issue alive in the US press .

He added that he has always questioned the Treasury Department, "What's Plan B?".

"If Congress does not act, what's Plan B? 'He says Congress will act, Congress will act ... we have all moved to Congress. I have devoted how long to Congress, but if at any given time it stumbles, it would take an act of the Executive, "said the House leader.

Sorry for the rough, quick and dirty translation. The issue is that the PR and federal governments have been fear mongering about the Puerto Rico GOVERMENT debt crisis to try to get Congress moving on some relief, and that strategy has obviously backfired because it is scaring away investors and tourism, which was the only sector of the economy that was showing any signs of growth. And the press is not very far in spreading this nonsense.

The government of Puerto Rico has been running a Ponzi Scheme for years.

They should clap their politicians in irons and confiscate everything they have.

the island as facing a humanitarian crisis.

The humanitarian crisis is that you can't spend more than you have forever. Eventually you have to pay the piper. By this dopey logic, I have a humanitarian crisis every time I get a credit card bill.

I thought that Puerto Rico’s looming financial catastrophe was caused by irresponsible politicians spending money they didn’t have.

Now we find out it’s the intransigent republicans in Washington who won’t cooperate with democrats.

The simple way, Democratically of course, is to make Puerto Rican citizens pay US Federal Income Tax.

I think Republicans have a “winning hand” here:

Either the government of Puerto Rico accepts a limited bailout with an Oversight Board and vigorous prosecution of Puerto Rico’s Democrat fraudsters...

or...

Puerto Rico gets NOTHING!

Oooooooh..! Tough Love!

Moreover, if Democrats in the Congress try to block passage of that simple solution: our money —> our oversight, then CALL THOSE DEMOCRATS OUT for their OBSTRUCTIVE GAMESMANSHIP!
By name!

The Gov was on Jake Tapper’s show about a month ago saying that the Zika Virus is a humanitarian crisis in PR — but by saying that he’s driving away even more tourism dollars!
