At unruly N.M. rally, Trump goes after GOP Gov. Martinez

Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail with a force Tuesday, veering away from his recent calls for party unity to attack New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, a rising star Republican and frequent critic of his campaign, as a poor leader who hasn’t done enough to stem economic problems in her state.

“You’ve got to get your governor to do a better job. She’s not doing her job,” Trump said at a convention center here, at one point joking that “maybe” he should run for New Mexico governor.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee also argued Martinez has put her state at risk by accepting Syrian refugees in New Mexico.

“Syrian refugees are being relocated in large numbers to New Mexico. If I was governor, that wouldn’t be happening,” Trump said, renewing his push for a temporary ban on refugees. He urged greater vetting and control of refugees, warning the alternative is “we are not going to have a country.”

I heard this on CNN this morning. I have to admit, I found it odd that he trashed her because I had heard she was a potential VP candidate. I guess not.

Does anyone know if she's popular there? If not, I suppose that makes sense. But it seemed an odd ploy to me.

This is how we know these VP leaks are baloney. Martinez has never been a consideration for TRUMP.

Why would you want her on the ticket when she’s been a life-long Demorat who just recently “converted” to the GOP?

All you need to know about Martinez you can get from that phone call to the cops while she was drunk at a party.

This clown should not be in any public office, let alone governor.

From Fox News Latino May 20th:

Early next week, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump will make his first campaign stop in New Mexico — the state with the highest percentage of Hispanics in the country and whose GOP Latina governor has had harsh words for the real estate mogul.

His campaign website announced Thursday that Trump will hold a rally Tuesday evening at the Albuquerque Convention Center as New Mexico prepares for its primary two weeks later, on June 7.

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, the nation’s first Latina governor and a rising star within the GOP, has openly criticized Trump’s statements about Mexican immigrants and Mexico. He has vowed to build a wall along the border and last year he compared Mexican immigrants to rapists and drug dealers.

Martinez has urged comprehensive immigration reform and asked candidates to tone down their rhetoric amid strong anti-immigration sentiment from some fellow Republicans.

So Martinez attacked Trump first. Trump fought back.

"New Mexico’s governor, Susana Martinez, chairwoman of the Republican Governors Association, did not mince words: She told the crowd of about 60 wealthy GOP backers that, as a Latina, she was offended by Trump’s language about immigrants. Noting her years working as a prosecutor on the Mexican border and now as a border-state governor, Martinez said Trump’s plan to build a wall and force Mexico to pay for it was unrealistic and irresponsible, according to multiple people in attendance."

Guess she’s kinda off the VP shortlist then.

In order for her to buck the liberal system in NM, she would lose popularity.

She needs the cover of a Republican Whitehouse to pull it off. Otherwise she looks foolish.

I think they can make up if they had to.

People gossip and spread rumors, and then say Trump is possibly doing this, doing that, as if they have some sort of inside info when in fact they are just joining in with social chatter boxes.

Martinez popular or not, the key takeaway is Trump is speaking the truth regardless. Martinez wants the Obama/GOPe money and has consented to bring in the Syrian Trojan Horse.

Yes. She's another puffed up politician who ran around with her nose in the air. A much overinflated sense of her own importance.

He's tearing these fools to shreds. I love it.

"Since 2000, the number of people on food stamps in New Mexico has tripled," Trump said. "We have to get your governor to get going. She's got to do a better job. Okay? Your governor has got to do a better job. She's not doing the job."

Martinez has been in office since 2011. How does New Mexico's standing in terms of unemployment, people on food stamps, etc. now compare to what she inherited?

I never saw her as President, navigating Congress, or handling foreign relations. It would have been transparent pandering.
