Hurricane season officially starts June 1st, so I wouldn't really call this "unusually early".

You can call it anything your heart desires. The rest of us who understand statistics would consider it "unusually early" when 99% of tropical storms and hurricanes occur after May. In fact, 88% of storms occur after August.

Check back in when you have something useful to offer in the discussion.

I’m currently taking odds on whether any land-based weather station will record tropical storm strength winds for T.S. Bonnie. Remember last year when T.S. Ana made landfall in South Carolina. T.S. Ana reportedly had 45 m.p.h. winds at landfall, but no land-based station recorded tropical storm force winds at all.

Wind should be a minor concern with this storm. Extended rainfall with an extremely slow moving system has the potential for devastating floods.

Bonnie. Can’t believe there haven’t been riots over such a Caucasian name.

Ha! Can’t say I’ve missed the hurricanes during the past several years.

Not likely with this one.

Still, it's fun to watch 'ol Lee Ringer (local TWC wedderman) try to contain himself so as not to scare off the first good influx of tourist dollars for the summer. They do get pretty happy about some tropical weather after a nicely boring spring.

This from down on the corner in Southport, NC. The "drinking town with a fishing problem". **hiccup** d;^)

Texas has thunderstorms and tornados bigger than this.

The Weather Channel guy at Myrtle Beach is complaining the sea oats are only showing a wind of 1-2 mph.

I’ve sailed in 40 kt. winds, years ago, and have been in numerous squalls coming in from of Lake Michigan.

I have to admit, I got a chuckle when Seinfeld said that when bad weather is forecast, people stock up on bread, eggs, and milk. He said”What does everybody do? make French Toast?”

You're probably right. A storm 2 days before what we humans consider to be the "season" is indeed extremely alarming... I guess we're doomed. This could signal the final stages of Climate Change (tm) and we're completely screwed.

Nauti ... Do you really believe T.S. Bonnie actually has tropical storm force winds? If not, then we may conclude that this isn't a particularly early storm, can't we? Former NHC Director Neil Frank has said that the NHC is naming "storms" that wouldn't have been named during his tenure.

I predict this will be the worst year on record with between zero and 365 hurricanes.

Yeah, here in Hilton Head Island SC we are experiencing steady light to modest rain and almost no wind.
