Nearly half of Washington, D.C. employers said they have either laid off employees or reduced the hours of employees to adapt to the District of Columbia’s minimum wage hikes since 2014, according to a report from the Employment Policies Institute.

The minimum wage in the District of Columbia has increased from a $8.25 hourly rate in 2014 to the current rate of $11.50 per hour. Mayor Muriel Bowser advocated a $15 minimum wage in her State of the District address earlier this year.

“In recent months, the City Council in D.C. has considered enacting a number of new labor mandates, including a higher minimum wage, a bill that would fine employers for schedule changes, and a family leave policy funded by a tax on employers,” the report says. …

I don’t care.

Really, I don’t care.

The minimum wage debate is a squirrel designed to distract our attention.

If we limited illegal immigration and reversed our stupid traded deals, jobs would come back and the minimum wage would be moot. That’s where we should put our focus.

Instead, we let the left suck us into another caring-guy vs mean-guy debate. We’re playing on their field. This is a debate we can’t win, because even when we win the economic argument, we still look like heartless meanies, which is all the left wants out of the debate anyway.

Our response should be more along the lines of:

“We want to create good jobs—jobs good enough to support a family. The Democrats talk on and on and on about raising the minimum wage, because they don’t know how to create good jobs. We do, and that’s what were going to do: create good jobs.”

Yes but all the laid off workers have healthcare and wear condoms so what could be bad?

Everything the left does is “caring Marxist versus mean Bourgeoisie” nonsequiturs/outright lies. Nobody’s debating it except those who pretend to be against it while supporting it.

Rubbish! Let’s do this right, minimum wage of $30/hr. So what if nobody has a job anymore and a McMuffin is $12. Not hard to make a will work for food sign. Hint, get to a good intersection early before someone else takes it.

The Amish that have taken charge over the years never learned how to balance a checkbook. If the register shows there’s money in the account then there must be money in the account so let’s spend it.

Hahaha....Given that roughly 50%” or more of the DC labor pool consists of public sector jobs, only about one quarter of that labor pool will be affected.

The gubmint really ought to rethink this, where are all the publics gonna wine and dine and lunch?

Not to mention the private sector folk, hmmm?

But, I'm sure the sage and forward thinking folk have the right plan for the publics...just raise the Fed and City wages. Voila! Problem solved.

How do one automate a sidewalk roach coach anyway?

To the Democrats, $15.00 an hour is a good job.
