Republicans are scrambling to clarify that they don't think Donald Trump is a racist

House Speaker Paul Ryan clarified on Tuesday that while he thinks some of Donald Trump's attacks on a judge have represented "the textbook definition of a racist comment," he doesn't consider the candidate himself to be racist.

After Ryan made the "racist comment" remark at a news conference Tuesday morning, Fox News radio's "Kilmeade & Friends" asked Ryan if he believes Trump is racist.

"No, I'm not — I'm saying that the comment was. I don't know what's in his heart, I can't speak to that whatsoever. What I'm saying is to suggest that a person's race disqualifies them to do their job is — that's what I'm saying," he said.

"I'm not saying what's in his heart because I don't know what is in his heart and I don't think he feels that in his heart but I don't think it is wise or justifiable to suggest that a person should be disqualified from their job because of their ethnicity."

Lee Zeldin, a Republican congressman from New York, made a similar argument Tuesday on CNN.

"As far as his character goes, he isn't making that statement because he feels like he is superior because he is white and the judge is Mexican," Zeldin said on CNN. "I don't think he's making that statement because internally he feels like he is of a superior race."

He’s a loathsome moron, isn’t he? Look at the great way Christie handled it.

Ryan hasn’t been in his position long but I’ll bet his knees are sore from treating Obama like a lord.

this low life needs to be retired.

Trump, please shut these cowards up with their contradictory statements! Tweet the truth about the judge’s associations with groups who have vowed to hurt you financially and Make America Mexico Again. This is at least the fourth day of not dealing with this crap on the Republican side, whatever that means anymore.

Make the comparison with the assumed bias of any judge with affiliations with white supremacy organizations. Come on!

Ryan should come clean and tell us what textbook he’s been reading.

Has Paul Ryan ever been right about anything? Maybe he was advising Biden on debate preparation.

Ryan’s hardly worthy of “badger” status.

That’s a mistake. Trump is the one being accused, and he is not scrambling. There is no reason for anyone to scramble and make idiots of themselves if the one accused is not bothered by the accusation.

Besides, the left will call us racist whether Trump is our nominee or not. The best thing to do when they make the accusation is just laugh at them and call them desperate losers.

Ryan is even stupider than I thought.

Trump did not say the judge cannot do his job because he is Mexican, he said he cannot do his job because he biased, he is an ILLEGAL MEXICAN ALIEN SUPPORTER with TIES TO La Raza.

(So probably a trump hater)

The case is full of holes and would have been thrown out by any other judge.

If the judge "self-identifies" as a Mexican, which his membership in the racist LaRaza clearly denotes, then how is calling him a Mexican a racist term?

Is the word "Mexican" a pejorative?

“suggest that a person’s race disqualifies them”

Trump didn’t suggest that. Didn’t he say that the fact that he was Mexican was “ok”, and that it was his affiliations that bothered Trump?

Remember that your legislator may well have voted to make Paul Ryan Speaker of the House. We need to remind them that their election was supposed to be to represent the people and demand that they represent us or leave office.

That’s a great example of the strawman logical fallacy. Accuse someone of being/doing something they are not and did not do - create strawman - then attack the imagined up strawman as if it’s the real person.
