High school graduation season is in full swing and Twitter and Facebook are jam-packed with pictures of jubilant teenagers but one girl's tweet has landed her in a whole lot of trouble.
Mayte Lara, from Crockett High School in Austin, Texas, tweeted: 'Valedictorian, 4.5GPA, full tuition paid for at UT, 13 cords and medals, nice legs, oh and I'm undocumented.'

The fact that Lara has publicly admitted to being undocumented will not, however, compromise her offer of full tuition at University of Texas.
A spokesman for the university said: 'In accordance with state law, Texas universities - including the University of Texas schools - have for decades granted two-semester tuition waivers to valedictorians of Texas public high schools, without regard to their residency status.
'State law also does not distinguish between documented and undocumented graduates of Texas high schools in admissions and financial aid decisions. University policies reflect that law'.

My son’s GPA was 4.5.....he took college level classes an received A’s and was given 5 points for those A’s. He only took a few classes and didn’t get anything below an A in those courses. And just as an aside, the valedictorian (just a couple of places higher than my son at his high school) took more college classes (we had a community college in our town), but would drop them if he wasn’t getting an A as a B would have brought his GPA down. So those GPAs can be easily manipulated.
What, do you need a federal law for everything to tell you not to do something stupid?

A+ = 4.3 -- RARELY accepted by universities with ANY plausibility.
A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
D- = .7
F+ = .3
F = 0
I once DID give a wonderful but stupid young man an F+.
Universities don't bother with anything higher than a 4.3, AT MOST, and those grades are for those students who have figured out how to walk on water...and I don't mean ICE kind of water.
4.6 = NONSENSE.
She will get out into the real world and her grades will mean piffle. Her character will establish her, nothing less. Thirty years after her graduation she probably won't even remember any of her classes, let alone the grades.

I've read of schools that give tests with bonus questions so students can score higher than 100 on exams. And there are other 'extra credit' scams which make it easier for all students to at least get at least a passing grade, and the better students can have higher than 4.0 GPAs.
Bragging that she tricked the system and will receive a free college education is sick.
That is the pure “establishment” of her character.
Her parents should be proud and deported.
